The purpose of this thread is simple. When someone (seriously) makes a comparison or invocation of Hitler, the Nazis, the Holocaust, etc. as an argument for or against something, post it here.

And please, don't consider it a privilege to be quoted here. Instead, consider it a massive failure on your part.

There are certain posters here who make extensive use of the Reductio ad Hitlerum. It annoys me.

Clearly, I have been making use of hyperbole to some extent in this thread.

To anyone who has made use of the term hate or hatred of Mitt Romney, however, I must point out that hate and hatred are very ugly words.

Hatred led the Nazis to massacre 6,000,000 Jews in Europe during World War II.

Hatred led white supremacists in the United States to murder, rape, and lynch innocent black people.

Hatred and intolerance led to two world wars, resulting in the deaths of tens of millions.

Ths list goes on and on.

Yes, that would be wonderful. Though discussion of Hitler is always amusing, since it is a far more complex topic than the layman Lehman believes.

God Damned conservatives always using the power of govt to screw over the poor!  We should all learn a lesson here and vote Democratic, they'd never do something like that.

Nah.. conservatives just use the power of corporations... to which the poor are completely powerless.  At least here they can show up to the city council meetings and bitch.

Yeah, we've done this before.  Corporations are so much more horrible than govts, you'd show me examples, but it's just so obvious right?

I haven't heard about many governments purposefully dumping toxic waste near aquifers like say, Metalclad. Or putting plastic into puppy chow. Or any of the other crap you hear about in the news (or not). The truth is both big business and government are potentially oppressive, and they have a tendency to collude together. That's why there need to be simple, clearly defined and impartial rules on both.

And govts have killed many hundreds of millions of people (not even counting war) in the last hundred years through incompetence alone.  Add in malice and you've got another few hundred million dead and that's still not counting wars.  How many people have corporations killed in the same time frame?  How many corporations have sicked dogs on black people?  How many Jews have been shoved into ovens by the phone company?

Would it be forbidden to speak about Hitler, nazis, holocaust or things like that...?

Would it be forbidden to use these things in an argumentation...?!?

That's what I understand when I read your post.

I personally find that several peoples just lose themselves when they speak about such things but I would need more explanations for automatically seeing as negative the fact to speak about these things.

I also would have preferred a thread just designed to show how ridiculous are some quotes about nazis and etc, but not one to designed the "bad peoples" as your post can let me think.

It is to highlight people making unfair and reaching comparisons to WWII era Germany as a method to win an argument. Discussions specifically about WWII era Germany don't qualify, of course, and there are cases where a comparison is fitting. This thread is not for that.

Don't be under the impression that it's "forbidden." Feel free to make outrageous statements.
