Edwards admits to affair to Judy Woodruff on Nightline to be broadcast tonight....

I think you mean Bob Woodruff.

Thanks. Wasn't Judy Woodruff connected with Nightline at some point?  I am just so confused!

Was she?  She was at CNN working on Inside Politics for a long time, and now she's at PBS.  I don't remember her ever being with ABC.

Oh it was "Frontline" per a Google.  Gawd, I'm losing it.

From:

"Billie Jean Is Not My Lover
She's Just A Girl Who Claims That I Am The One
But The Kid Is Not My Son
She Says I Am The One, But The Kid Is Not My Son"

To:

"Billie Jean Rielle Hunter Is Not My Lover
She's Just A Girl Who Claims That I Am The One is My Lover
But The Kid Is Not My Son
She Says I Am The One, But The Kid Is Not My Son"

I wonder how much more of the lyrics will change.

not surprising...  of course, it's likely only partially the truth, but I wouldn't expect much more.

Hunter is a step up from Elizabeth Edwards, no?  (Yes, the more recent pictures of Hunter are much worse, but that was during / after she was pregnant.)

Isn't that picture of Edwards from during her cancer treatment?

I had a conversation with my local 7-11 attendant about the national Enquirer about 2 or 3 months ago. I was depressed about Hillary losing and went there to buy a pack of cigarettes (I smoke about once every 2-3 years).

The guy works probably 9pm-9am on the week ends, for the last 8 or 9 years. I told him he could learn some software skills by picking up one of those technical guides and get a better paying job, but he said he can't even afford to buy a computer. I asked him what he did at 7-11, it seemed pretty boring, and I saw that he was reading a copy of the National Enquirer. "Is the stuff in there really accurate?"
"You'd be surprised," he told me. "The National Enquirer goes and searches out for stories that other media outlets won't touch,"
I mentioned All the President's Men and how Redford and Hoffman had to get four sources before they could publish on Watergate.
"Of course, the government's smart now, if they want to leak a story, they will give a reporter what seems to be four sources, but it will really be one source," he said.
I asked him how he judged whether the stories were accurate. He said you can usually tell by how the story is written. How outlandish is what is being said? If it's about UFO's, it's probably not accurate. If there were a lot of different people saying the same thing, it's probably true. This made sense. Although I don't read the National Enquirer, the 7-11 attendant helped me understand why people do.

Probably, but older women are not hot unless they go extremely artificial. That's just how it is. Elizabeth was a smoking bun when she was younger (as is her daughter now).

It is understandable that a man with power and success would feel that he should be able to get some other ass, especially if there is no emotional attachment involved and he remains loyal financially to his wife as well.

In Edwards' case though, his sin was political, not sexual. He should have known better after the Clinton Presidency. Instead, he risked his ideals, his supporters' faith, and his country in order to satisfy his lust, and that shows his priorities, unfortunately.

I was telling everyone he was a jackass and a phony.

I've always felt that way about him too for some reason....he always puts on this overly sympathetic/sensitive tone of voice (probably from being a lawyer)  that strikes me as being so full of sh*t. I hate men who talk like that.

Although I'm about the furthest thing from a self-righteous moralist, cheating on your dying wife does seem really low. McCain was locked up and tortured for 5 prime years of his life, so at least he has some excuse if his whole mindset or perspective got f***ed up with his wife. What can Edwards say? He was suffering trauma from running out of makeup?

John Edwards is done.  America is spared the trial lawyer with the phony two America spill.  Worried so about Americans in poverty as he lives in a 28,000 square foot mansion.

So long silk pony.  Don't let the door hit you in the ass.  Bye bye.

I really hope jfern brings back this classic for this signature...

I love how the media keeps saying that he was a potential running mate for Obama. Hilariously wrong but hey, what goes around comes around for all the "McCain-Bush" nonsense.

so, anyone think McCain's situation with his first wife was better?  probably so, as it seems they were on the outs based on his stay in Hanoi.  I think being a POW probably screws you up enough to allow you a pass on fidelity, right?

Seems like it just fine if you're a Republican house speaker too.

I, for one, have always said that I have a serious problem with that.

Beet part of the problem  is that folks mix up the National Enquirer with other tabloids. The NE doesn't do UFO stories, or stories about a monkey and human love child, etc.

Disappointing, but for all those who think Edwards political career is over, I'm sure I need not remind you of the other dozens of other politicians who have lied about affairs and gone on to be successful.

"I think this President has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen."

-- John Edwards, quoted by the Raleigh News & Observer in 1999, on Bill Clinton.

Why is Edwards still lying one might ask. Well maybe here is part of the answer:

NRO/the corner

Nine Months [Stephen Spruiell]

Overheard in the office: "Why would Edwards admit the affair but deny fathering the child?"

I'll tell you why: Elizabeth Edwards was diagnosed with incurable cancer in late March of 2007. Rielle Hunter's baby was born in late February of 2008. That means that if Edwards is the father, he was definitely still carrying on the affair with Hunter after he knew his wife's cancer was back.

08/08 03:33 PM

In any event, we know Edwards is not going to the convention, because he would be asked too many questions about the holes in his story, and he would be a distraction.
