Hunter has really let herself go since HuffPuff first wrote about her last year:

The MSM isn't covering this story, but it's received at least some play in the gray area between MSM and blogosphere, like Slate:

Amusingly, HuffPuff were the first to report on Rielle Hunter, though they didn't allege an affair back then:

Apparently the birth certificate for this baby lists no father:

Why is the National Enquirer running this story, and who exactly does this story benefit? Was Edwards actually being seriously considered as Obama's running mate, so somebody else who wants the job as VP decided to get somebody they know at the National Enquirer to run a hit job with the thought being this would prevent Edwards from being considered as VP or Attorney General in an Obama Administration?

As pointed out earlier in the thread, the Enquirer was covering this story late last year, when Edwards was still in the race.  Their recent story on the hotel visit is just a follow up to the stories they'd already run.

Some of the DNC convention organizers are now saying that Edwards is jeopardizing his chances of a nice primetime speaking slot at the convention by not rebutting these charges:

Thanks. Wasn't Judy Woodruff connected with Nightline at some point?  I am just so confused!

Was she?  She was at CNN working on Inside Politics for a long time, and now she's at PBS.  I don't remember her ever being with ABC.

I would have rather seen him admit he was gay.........that's a fugly woman

Elizabeth Edwards:

Rielle Hunter:

Hunter is a step up from Elizabeth Edwards, no?  (Yes, the more recent pictures of Hunter are much worse, but that was during / after she was pregnant.)

does anyone doubt this story now?

I don't doubt the story, but I do think it was an idiotic thing for Kerry to ask.  It still boggles my mind that Kerry thought he might actually have another shot in 2008 if he lost to Bush in 2004.

The Enquirer has tried running this story before, it's never gotten anywhere. Trash this like you would an ARG poll

Hmm...a paper that preys upon people at the bottom of the economic spectrum going after a candidate that pushes policies most beneficial to them...so surprised.  At least he's getting some attn. from the "liberal" media, unlike those politicians from each party that were rated most favorably by corporate America.

National Enquirer + Internet blogs + Edward's various political enemies, does not equal a believable story.

Seriously? The National Enquirer? Seriously?

Grin

As a general rule, when sleaze rags start getting very specific about details they probably aren't making the whole thing up.

Smiley Thx, Al.

What the heck?  This is truly bizarre.  I just noticed that, at least for a while, Hunter lived with Andrew Young (the alleged father of her baby) and his wife:

Is is the least bit plausible that Mrs. Young would agree to that kind of living arrangement if Hunter was really Young's mistress (or ex-mistress) and Young was really the father of the baby?

Last year when the first allegations of an affair surfaced in the Enquirer, Edwards apparently tried to guilt trip the Charlotte News & Observer into not covering the story by bringing up Elizabeth's cancer:
