Kasich? Way too random but I wouldn't mind it.

I doubt. I think it's more B.S. just to get McCain's name in the headlines.

Wow, the McCain campaign is pathetically desperate for the media to pay attention to them.

Most likely. It's pretty funny seeing him desperately trying to grab some headlines from Barack these past few day's.

You're probably right but you never know... he has to announce it eventually. It would certainly kill the Obama/Berlin story.

Announcing the VP is a card that can only be played once.

However, I wonder if there will be a "boy who cried wolf" effect here, diminishing the run-up to McCain's actual pick.  GO CANTOR

There's no grand conspiracy here.  McCain's planned trip to New Orleans was cancelled because of weather:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/24/us/politics/24mccain.html?_r=1&ref=politics&oref=slogin

With that trip out of the picture, they had to come up with some different campaign event, so they're going to Ohio.  Not sure how that translates into "McCain is naming his running mate!  OMG!"

Basically agree. He might announce a running mate, but more likely is simply trying to make the best of his lost cheesy photo-op.

Kasich would probably be better than about 2/3rds of the most commonly mentioned names for McCain's running mate.

and phil...just to be fair...you wanted to smear the good name of linda lingle because she is 'rumored' to be a lesbian.

isnt it also true that kasich has, in the past, been rumored to be a fan of sodomy with other males?

Lol, as far as I know, that is the only "evidence".  That he shared a DC-area apartment with his male chief of staff when he was a bachelor.  (He's now married with children.)  Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it far from unheard of for members of Congress to share apartments in DC while also maintaining houses back in their districts?  AFAIK, this is all that Kasich did.  Is any adult male with a male roommate now "rumored to be gay"?  If so, I guess I've known numerous "rumored to be gay" men without realizing it.

I am a Democrat?  No, just because I like to make fun of Romney in order to wind up Winfield doesn't make me a Democrat.

The BBC people told me that McCain's event was moved to Columbus because of the weather.  There were tornado warnings in Western PA and I believe in Eastern OH.

This 'desperate' headline-grabbing (obviously effective because we're here talking about it) has been used before.  Think about how after Hillary's wins in Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc., Obama would drag out endorsements he'd been storing up.
