This is the nomination thread for the worst candidate in American history. I nominate Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson for going from frontrunners to having less than 5% of the vote.

Wow, I actually agree with a Democrat.  Buchanan is easily my least favorite politician, let alone him being a candidate for nomination.

The ineptitude of Rudy Giuliani's campaign will go down in the american government textbooks as a strong example of why you should not ignore Iowa, New Hampshire, or about four of five other states in a row to start off your presidential campaign.

No, Jerry Brown did that before him.

By election year:

2008: Rudy Giuliani - for reason SPC stated above
2004: Howard Dean - forget the Iowa scream but going from front runner to 3rd place in Iowa
2000: Alan Keyes - what a joke!
1996: Lamaer Alexander - never showed his full potential
1992: Paul Tsongas - never capitalized after NH primary victory
1988: Gary Hart - Donna Rice, enough said
1984: Jesse Jackson - Hymietown comment
1980: John Connally - the $11 million delegate
1976: George Wallace - trying to compair himself to FDR
1972: George McGovern - how did he even get the nomination
1968: George Romney - don't ever say you were brainwashed

Of course you can always argue for 1964, 1968, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988 and, 1992 Harold Stassen!

South Park Conservative, I feel that this subject is far too broad to discuss who was the worst candidate for the Presidency of the United States in history. Considering how broad this subject is I shall instead limit my views down to the worst candidate in the last 50 years.

For me, the worst candidate in the past 50 years would have to be a tie between former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Nutjob Lyndon La Rouche. Giuliani due to leading in every Republican Poll prior to the Primaries then losing momentum six months prior to the Primaries began, thanks to his "brilliant" strategy. And Lyndon La Rouche for being a nutjob, no need to elaborate on this one.
