Sounds like a good pick to me-Brownback is young, but not too young, strong conservative creds on every issue; I don't see any downside to picking him.

Brownback's a fundie Catholic, not evangelical.  He doesn't do snake handling.  If McCain was looking for that vote, he'd go with Gov. Huckabee.

Worse, he's even a former fundie, so the fundies will likely resent him.  And he opposed the surge...and...

That would be one choice that would ensure I never voted for McCain. Not only that, but I’d lose a lot of respect for him as well. Brownback is personally the last man I’d want near the presidency.  Bias aside, I also don’t think it’s a very “unifying" pick at all, and it would help ensure that many moderates who would otherwise consider going to McCain would be scared back into Obama’s camp.

Huckabee at the very least can appeal to the South and evangelicals, not to mention his media persona and renowned "don't screw the poor" stances.

Not only is a boring Midwestern Catholic convert, he opposed the Surge, didn't he?

Don't forget the KBH problem. Like KBH, Brownback is primed for an '10 gubernatorial bid.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't accept a spot on the ticket if the opportunity came up (not that I expect McCain to pick him anyway).
