I actually think this is a very strong democratic ticket in '76.  Scoop Jackson was an old fashioned New Deal Democrat.  Economically liberal, strong with unions, moderate on social policy and a hardliner on foreign policy.  He was more compatable with Ronald Reagan on foreign policy issues than Gerald Ford.  I think Jackson/Carter would have done better than Carter/Mondale ultimately did in '76.  The hard part for Jackson would be getting the nomination.

I have trouble believing the map would be that close to 2000.

Jackson wins 270-268, but I suppose Jackson could win a few other Southern states.

Write-in possibilities: Shirley Chisholm, Murray Rothbard, George McGovern, Hunter Thompson, The Ghost of Robert Taft.

To Hell with voting for either of these war-hawk hacks.

SCOOP FOR PRESIDENT!

I really wish that he had won the nomination. The New Deal Democrat would make a great president, far better than the dumb peanut farmer from Georgia.
