But, of the two, it really depends on the poster.

If VP mattered, the sheer owning of Dan Quayle by Lloyd Bentsen would've been enough to propel Dukakis to victory in '88.

This needs to be posted a million times to the posters who honestly think VPs can deliver states and all that nonsense.

I think it depends on the VP candidate, the state and the closeness of the race IN that state.

Absolutely no VP candidate will give McCain DC.  Absolutely no VP candidate will give Obama UT. Would Kaine deliver VA to Obama?  Probably.  Would Ridge deliver PA for McCain?  Probably.  Can either win those states without the respective candidates?  Possibly.

I see. So you're one of the handful of deluded fools that are responsible for all these BRTD posts on the issue.
It figures.

No, actually, I have not voted because it depends on the VP nominee, the relative strength of the candidate in that state (without looking at the VP candidate)  and the state.

VP candidates do matter by about 1-2 percent in the candidates' home state, above and beyond their national influence.

A really good VP or a really bad VP could probably swing 1-2 percent nationally.

It's rare that either of the above would ever decide a state or national election, of course, and most VP candidates are neither good or bad enough to truly have much effect. But in a very tight race, it could make the difference. Not likely, but possible.
