Here's some proof so you all don't think I'm seeing things...

This actually sucks, since it's likely he won't be the Republican nominee in November. I'm not sure Begrich can beat a generic Republican in a state like Alaska.

I think the filing deadline for the primary has long passed.

Aren't there other Republicans running?

Vic Vickers has surfaced.  His website went live about 10 minutes ago. Hey, he looks "perfect" to be a Senator from Alaska.

Hey, maybe Stevens can quit, and we can fly the New Jersey supreme court up to Alaska to parachute some other Pubbie on to the ballot.

One of note, some liberal businessman named Vic Vickers.  Palin wing of the party.

The culture of corruption in the GOP must stop.

Dude.  D-NJ.

Some obscure people who may not be able to beat even an indicted Stevens in a primary (especially because the anti-Stevens vote is split). Bear in mind that Begich is already mayor of 40% of the state's population, too.

This barely even counts as a July "surprise."

Well, true, but an indictment is something that all voters understand.

Go Cuddy or some other sane Republican! Is it too late for anyone else to file?

This race moves to Leans Democratic for the time being. If Vickers (who conveniently bought $400k in airtime right before the indictment) can coalesce the anti-Stevens vote around his candidacy, Stevens will lose the primary. Even if Vickers win the primary, he'll still be the underdog to Begich, who Verily noted already govern 2/5 Alaskans. As the Republicans lob corruption charges at each other, Begich is quietly amassing a large campaign warchest for the fall.

In case anyone's interested, here are my new Senate rankings:

Safe Democratic:

Virginia*

Likely Democratic:
New Mexico*

Leans Democratic:
New Hampshire
Louisiana (D)
Colorado*
Alaska

Toss-up:

Tossup/ Tilts Republican:
Mississippi #2 – Wicker

Leans Republican:
Oregon

Likely Republican:
Maine
Minnesota
North Carolina
Kentucky

Democrats are now favored in five races for GOP-held Senate seats, slightly trail in two, and are underdogs in four other races.

Who the hell is Vickers? Is she (or he?) more legitimate than Cuddy? Vickers doesn't have a website up according to Politics1 so any information would be helpful.

Uh, the link is earlier in this thread.

Vickers seems to be a self-funding business man with an...uh... interesting back story.

Yeah, I just found it. Google does wonders.  Smiley

This guy looks Tester-esque. I'm still searching the site for an "interesting back story." I can tell by his looks that he probably has some interesting qualities. Love that beard.

If you think his back story is interesting, you should totally see his synopsis.

Seems like a bit of a conspiracy theorist. I guess I'm sticking with Cuddy.

Dave Cuddy's resume strikes me as so thin, that  it  is akin to diaphanous paper.
