Can't we just deport all the politicians in New Jersey and start over?

Good idea!

Until Alaska elected Palin, I think it was the closest equivalent for Republicans to New Jersey for Democrats.

Except in NJ it's a power thing. When the GOP controlled the legislature, they were corrupt, too. DiFrancesco didn't run for gov because of his ethics probs. Besides, Alaska is more corrupt than NJ anyway. 2/3 of it's congressional delegation  and it's governor are under investigation. NJ: 0.

That's because Christie is too busy locking up local officials.  Once he's done putting McPherson, Sarlo, other EnCap enablers in jail he'll have more free time.

What other districts in the country are so completely under the thumb of a political machine as this? I suppose some of the Long Island Republican districts were, back in the day.

Albio Sires's district, Rothman's district, Payne's district, and Pascrell's district.

This was expected. All the Jersey experts told us at the time that Camille Andrews wouldn't last into the election. (Not that I personally considered it 'impossible' for them all to be wrong, but... well. I knew which way probability lay.)

And Down is right.

Albio Sires's district, Rothman's district, Payne's district, and Pascrell's district.

Sires we've seen this to be the case, and I'm sure it would be true if Payne were to retire. If Pascrell retired, though, that seat would be competitive, and any seat where the Republicans have an opening can't be said to be owned by a Democratic county machine, at least not as I was thinking it, even if the nomination could be.

NJ-11 and NJ-2 might seem to qualify by the same standards as NJ-8. The Morris and Atlantic Republican machines would control those nominations, if they went open, and in NJ-11, that's the election.

Some of the districts you've mentioned are split over several counties, and most "machines" are located county-by-county—especially in the GOP.

And really, the Pascrell seat wouldn't be competitive.  Scott Rumana is probably the best the GOP has there, and he wouldn't be able to win county-wide anymore.

True.  I'd say the only districts the machines can't control are 3, 5, and 7.  All of the districts held by Democrats aren't actually influenced much by elections.  I'd say Republicans have locked on 2, 4, and 11.
LoBiondo is in a swing district.
