Very decent and very brave man. Showed enough courage for all of us in his lifetime. Though we should probably hope for his sake that the latter decades of his life stay forgotten. They weren't exactly pretty.

Correct. He was quite a supporter of monarchism, conservatism, and Christian-right kind of stuff in his later life. He supported Putin, too, IIRC.

Conservatism, within a western context anyway, is the wrong word. Anti-liberal might be closer, but still misses something.
