Absolutely. Especially in VP picks, but probably more overall in everything else too.

I strongly agree with this. Network pundits are over-paid losers.

Fact: Anyone who honestly believes a "neighboring state advantage" exists is an idiot. Period, the end.

So almost all network pundits are idiots.

Agree completely. If that was the case Virginia and WVA would be battlegrounds in every election.

It depends on the poster and it depends on the pundit.  With the exceptions of Alcon and Sam Spade (and certain posters on their home states), I wouldn't say that most people here are better versed in demographics and statistics than Chuck Todd.

I'm always curious as to how much pundits are told to say by the network and if they actually believe it. For example, making some states swing states when they obviously are not.

I guess it also depends on the network. For example, someone living in a cave for the last ten years would know more than the pundits on CNN.

What about the idiots who talk about how Bayh is going to flip Ohio or Lieberman will help McCain win Connecticut?

Well...do you want to try talking about the election 15 hours a week when nothing's really happening?  They're dead wrong, but I can't blame them for trying to find something to say.

Depends if you mean forum members or active forum members. I assumed active forum members and answered yes.

I say no, but only marginally. I would say that the educated, serious, non-hackish part of the forum know more and as a result the discourse on the forum is more checked and has higher quality. But once one includes all of the stupid teen hacks I'm not so sure anymore...

Not to show off or anything, but I know more about French politics than TV5 does.

I remember during the municipal elections when one pundit was like "the Socialist mayor is retiring... will Rennes vote socialist now?". I also remember a magazine article with some university thingee called ElectionScope, which did predictions based on "scientific" stuff. ElectionScope gave Royal 28% in the first round and 23% to Sarkozy, Le Pen at 16% and Bayrou at 15%. Hilarious. Entirely wrong order. Also, their "explanation" for possible right-wing gains in Ajaccio or Dijon in 2008 was "o Sarkozy won the city!!!11!!". Lolz. Cheesy

I hope they keep "predicting", since they're hilarious at that. I guess that in 2010, they'll predict a UMP gain in Limousin Smiley and PS gain in Corse (even though the PS doesn't exist there). Grin
