This thread is about great ancestors of forum members, both Americans and others, but particularly Americans.

I have always thought that one of most interesting characteristic of American culture/society is your different origins. I was really enthusiastic when Nym90 and Christopher Michael told me about their Finnish-American backgrounds.

So please write in where your ancestors were from. Like "I'm Irish-French-German-Dutch-Bulgarian-Estonian" I have always liked that American tradition to express your origins.

Half my family is from England (not sure how many generations) the other half is from Poland and Russia (although we are 3rd generation English I think)

LOL!

Nah its okay I feel like I can bash the French without feeling bad thats the great thing! Plus my ancestors apprently had enough brains to move away from there.(No offence to anyone who is French intended)

I'm Canadian French (lots of relatives in Philly area), Danish, Irish, Swiss, Scottish and ? else. You know, a Euro mutt. Grin Born and raised way out west in California, though. Central Coast. Spoiled like Heck by the weather (can definitely put up with occasional quake). Love to visit some of the olde countries, but right now we're in mid winter and all I can think about is surviving all this rain and these 40 something degree nights.
Where are my ancestors from? No place I want to visit this time of year! Cool

Pure Jew. My ancestors are mostly Russian and Habsburg Imperial subjects. From lands that are today Lithuania, Byelorussia, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, and Austria. I had one great great grandfather who talked about what a great emperor Franz Josef II was (way before my time!) My most recent immigrant ancestor is my mother's father, from a small village in the then Ukraine. Some of my ancestors lived in Quebec City briefly, so I guess I'm part French Canadian...

My out of nation relatives live in France, Israel, and Argentina. Most of my European relatives died in the holocaust, or ended up  in France (starting from Poland).
