I think we probably need it, given that several registered members have moved on. I'd also like to see an end to the proliferation of parties. It'd be good to have three; a Left, Right, and Center. This way, we'd have room for coalitions.

Background.

Born in the mountains of Reginia, Robert grew up in a lower-middle class family.  Forced by his parent's lack of money to pay for a college education, young Robert, Rob to his friends, majored in politics, seeing it as his way out.  Due to his father's career as a farmer, Rob embraced an agrarian and worker oriented political policy.  A practicing catholic, he does not let his religion and politics interfer with one another.  Three years after college, at the age of twenty eight, Rob ran for, but lost a city council seat by one vote.

Idea for parties:

Socialist Party (Parti socialiste, Partido Socialista): Standard leftist party, with all the dissensions that arise as a result. Does especially well in Francophone areas.

Liberal Party (Parti libéral, Partido Liberal): Founded as a liberal party, but with an increasingly certrist outlook. Does best in big cities, but there is a solid Francophone Liberal undercurrent.

People's Party (Parti populaire, Partido Popular): Originally an agrarian Anglophone party, it still sweeps those areas. However, there is also some degree of support from business. There is almost no support from Francophones.

National Party (Parti national, Partido Nacional): A remnant of the former ruling National Movement during the dictatorship, this party is almost exclusively Lusophone. All parties have put a cordon sanitaire around the Nationals.

I designed the parties in such a way that any coalition of the three major parties is possible, and the Liberals thus do not hold all the cards.

Background.

     James Drexler was born to immigrants from the United States. His parents lived as farmers in the foothills of Mount Drexel, in the Robera province. He, like his parents, has regularly attended church services throughout his life to hide the fact that he is an Atheist. When they died in a landslide when he was seven years old, he was adopted by Portuguese Nationalists in rural parts of the Clairive province. As such, he was raised in the inner circles of the National Party. From the time he graduated from college, he immediately went into politics as an aide to various National Party leaders.

Background:
Davey is the grandson of Randy Jones, a high school principal from Alabama, and the son of Randy's third son, Davey Jones, Sr.  While in his twenties, Davey took a sprint break vacation to Antillia.  He immediately fell in love with the place, and wired home for some money to buy some property.  His $200 was only enough to buy him a small plot of land in rural Lorient.  Luckily for him, though, that plot of land was soon worth thousands of dollars, because a rock formation looking vaguely like the Virgin Mary was discovered on that property, causing the largely Catholic Francophones to engage in a bidding war for control.  Davey shrewdly invested the money to purchase a winery, and got a job as a high school principal in Lorient.

Davey Sr. married his wife, Jacqueline Du Bois, two years after arriving on the island.  Though she was both half-French and Roman Catholic, the two fell in love despite their differences.  Davey managed to "convert" her from her Frenchness; in return, Jacqueline converted her husband to Roman Catholicism, practically anathema to the Jones family back in Alabama.  They had nine children together; Davey Jr., known as "Junior" to everyone, was the third, and the first son.  It was widely expected that Davey would go into the family business and become a high school principal.  But it was not to be.  Instead, Davey chose the life of an insurance adjuster, leaving the winery to his older sisters.

He led a quiet life until the age of 27.  That's when the immigrants started trickling in.  Then the trickle became a flood.  Davey was alarmed; what was the world coming to?  He first got into politics campaigning as essentially an "anti-anyone-not-Anglo-Saxon" candidate.  But that was before he met his wife.  Padma Dasgupta came into his life while running for office, amusingly enough in a crowd of protesters outside a campaign visit.  She challenged him to sit down in a restaurant and discuss his politics with her.  He accepted.  They were married within a month.

This has tempered his views on immigration quite a bit; he supports almost no barriers to skilled immigration (his wife is an engineer), and generally favors a pro-refugee policy.  Still, his views remain otherwise conservative.  He is strongly opposed to granting homosexuals any special rights, and is pro-life in all cases, except for the health of the mother.  He supports the death penalty for capital crimes.  He supports tax and spending cuts, along with reduced welfare programs and more lax environmental regulations.  He opposes any bilingualism in the public sphere.  In foreign policy, he is a strong supporter of a stronger alliance with the United States, and by extension the United Kingdom.

     It would be interesting to see what happens if people are forced to work within parties rather than just found new ones.

Background:
Since the British annexation of Antillia in 1783, there has always been a MacDonald in Antillia. Military records in London and Edinburgh show that a Colonel Rupert MacDonald of the 81st Aberdeenshire Highlanders retired his commission in 1790, having served in Antillia since the landing seven years previously. Further records kept at the Lands and Titles Office in Lorient reveal that Colonel MacDonald purchased an estate of 150 acres in McLaren Valley, Regina with his military pension, a princely sum of 22 guineas.

Today, MacDonald Estate Wines are something of a staple in many exclusive restaurants in Alberton, providing the MacDonald family with a steady income.

The combination of land and wealth has ensured that the MacDonalds have been a respected family in the Antillian establishment for several generations. It has been common for the sons of each generation to attend school in Alberton, serve in the military before returning to the land to continue the family business. General Jonathon MacDonald, an uncle of Clive’s was the Defence Minister in the previous dictatorship until democracy toppled the regime.

During the first pro-democracy protests, Lt Clive MacDonald was sent with his regiment to provide assistance to police in an attempt to disperse the protestors. International media recorded the scene of the young lieutenant arriving at the rally and crossing over to join the demonstrators. Several non-commissioned officers and soldiers also followed him.

For his action on that day, Lt MacDonald and the other soldiers were court-martialled and dishonourably discharged from the Antillian Armed Forces. MacDonald continued to be involved in pro-democracy demonstrations until the collapse of the government. This has created a rift in the MacDonald family, with General MacDonald and his children cutting ties with Clive’s father, Rupert, after Rupert failed to disinherit his son (it is tradition within the MacDonald family for the name of the eldest son to alternate between Rupert and Clive).

A keen horse racing enthusiast, MacDonald is frequently seen at the Ascot Park Race Course in Alberton, where he is a member. He also recently purchased a thoroughbred stud farm and stables on land adjacent to his parents’ winery in McLaren Valley.

After the rise of democracy, MacDonald joined the People’s Party, and has been endorsed as the candidate for Berwickshire, which includes McLaren Valley, in the northeast of Regina, adjacent to the border with New Ulster. Despite his strong family links and the generally moderate conservative nature of the predominantly agricultural constituency, MacDonald will face a tough battle for the seat: the Nationalists have committed to run a candidate against the “traitor who deserted his duties” and the Liberal candidate has already branded him a “political opportunist who switched sides from the military establishment only when it appeared the government would fall” (Source: Berwickshire Advocate).
