As I've said for the last few elections, they may be the one that finally stops tricking people.  Christopher Chrisitie is the best candidate that GOP has had to run since Tom Kean Sr.

How well known is Christie in New Jersey? I have no clue who my state's U.S. Attorney is, but that might just be California.

Well when you live a state where he's on TV every day for locking somebody up he's bound to get some attention.  I'd say he's known by about 35-40% of voting age New Jerseyians.  Plus, his name has been thrown around as a possible candidate since 2005 so he has some recognition that way.  Probably about equal to that of John Murphy, but certainly lower than that of Kean Jr.

So he definitely has some room to improve in the polls. Still, I'll believe that a Repbulican can win in New Jersey when I see it.

I agree with you that no Republican in New Jersey is winning, except Christie.  He's so widely respected on both sides, in fact, Corzine's last SC appointment and AG (Stuart Raber or something like that) came right from Christie's office.

Christie ought to print and frame this, since it is his high water mark.

Anyone know the last time someone went from being US Atty to governor?  I would assume the average US Atty gets 2% of the attention Christie gets.

Well, from memory, Bill Ritter went from the US Attorney's office to District Attorney to Governor.

Current odds of Christie running: 95%
Current odds of Christie winning the primary: 60%
Current odds of Christie winning the general: 30%

Whoa, first I thought Christie meant Christine Todd Whitman.  Then I remembered I'm an idiot.

I first heard about him during the McGreevey fiasco in late 2004. Even back then they said he was a possible candidate for Governor. He's probably been preparing the groundwork for a long time.

Wow, that's even before I heard of him.  But maybe he can overcome the machines considering he managed to put Sharpe James in jail.  The greatest travesty of Obama being elected would be the replacement of Christie, he's the only thing stopping NJ for completely imploding

On his wikipedia page they mention an immigration controversy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Christie) . How big an issue will that be, is he vulnerable to a primary challenege because of it? Even in the Northeast immigration is a big deal that people get all upset about.

It would make him somewhat vulnerable against the conservative Murphy, but considering Kean Jr. is pro-choice that would be just as huge or if not a bigger backlash

I don't know about that.  I don't think people are all too pleased with him.

Ha! Of course they aren't. The people of NJ are never pleased yet re-elect their leaders because of the (D) next to their name. It's a never ending joke in the never ending joke of a state.

Bergen Record Poll:
Corzine (D) 43%
Christie (R) 41%

The poll also decided to poll Crowley against Corzine, Corzine leads handily 48-24%

This is going to be a race

Oh, it always is. Then the voters always screw it up and hand the Democrat a fairly easily victory. Corzine by six next year.
