If Bobby Bright wins in AL-2, we will have the district carved out to elect a Democrat, AL-3, represented by a Republican, while the "remainder" district including the most conservative parts of Birmingam represented by a Democrat.

Similarly, if Lou Barletta unseats Paul Kanjorski in PA-11 while Chris Carney survives in PA-10, districts that were heavily gerrymandered to favor incumbent parties will have completely flipped.

Are there other examples of this happening? Could there be any, with a little imagination, in 2008 or 2010?

A Baron Hill loss might qualify, too... Bloomington was shifted from the 8th to the 9th district to shore up the Democratic vote there while weakening it in what's now Ellsworth's district. However, the 9th is only marginally Democratic, if it can be said to be at all.

Some usually Democratic industrial areas were moved into the 8th to offset the loss of Bloomington.
