No reason to believe that "denial".  If Obama's going to wait until Friday to announce it, he probably hasn't even told the person being picked that it's him (so as to avoid leaks).  Kerry reportedly didn't tell Edwards that he was the choice in 2004 until just a few hours before the announcement was made.  And even if Biden has been told, do you really think he'd come out and say so?

A whole bunch of people just lost a lot of money on Intrade. (Biden had reached almost 50.0 this afternoon.)

I think it'll be Bayh, but just to be different I'll register Wes Clark as my official opinion.

His office says that he's not invited to the DNC and Clark, when asked, said he'll be in Milan having a business dinner or something next Wednesday.

The people picking Clinton should consider professional help.

Senator Barack Obama will either select one of the following people as his running mate:

  • Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana
  • Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia
  • Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas

At this point, I believe that Obama will select Bayh.

Perhaps you should consider it for your Clinton Derangement Syndrome.

I'm curious, what makes you think she could actually be chosen? You think we would have seen some signs that Obama was at least open to the idea by now... but that hasn't been the case.

Indeed, Obama campaign officials seemed to be trying their damnedest to squash media and public hopes of a Clinton pick.  I think they would have kept the idea of Clinton a little more speculative if they wanted to surprise us with her, instead of trying to encourage the idea that the two of them were fundamentally incompatible.

Of the main three mentioned -- Bayh, Biden, and Kaine -- I think it'll be Biden.

Of anyone outside the main three, I think it'll be Sam Nunn or Bill Richardson.  This is mainly because I think Obama will be looking for someone with strong foreign policy credentials.

Of the three I mentioned, I've been saying Nunn but I'm leaning more toward Richardson with Nunn a close second.

Tim Kaine, unlike Bayh he can help add electoral votes into Obama's column.

I think you're overestimating Kaine's impact.  He's not as popular as Mark Warner and the Richmond paper had a recent poll showing neither he nor Eric Cantor would have much of an impact on swaying VA one way or another.

If he continues on the path he seems to be heading, then Biden. If he ends up having last minute doubts, then Bayh

I think I'm going to recant this earlier post. Two things that I think may end up hurting Biden's chances are that it seem as though him and Obama don't really have any personal chemistry and Obama wont be able to control Biden as Vice President. When it comes down to it, I think Obama will want someone who will be comfortable governing, as well as someone he will be able to control. Bayh and Kaine fit that profile

And given Kaine's own inexperience,  I'm giving the edge to Bayh for the moment. My original prediction.

I (like everyone else I assume?) would be completely shocked, but I'd be pretty happy.

Hey, I'm not eligible yet.

Biden, he said no.  With Bayh, they can say bayh-bye to a senate seat, which seem very valuable these days.  Both of them have already been scheduled for a Wednesday slot, possibly as the VP but not indicated as such.  But so has Bill Richardson, which is my favorite and prediction.

Is your name Ray Mabus?

Biden retracted that "no."  It's possible that the actual VP doesn't know it's him yet.  I'm suspicious of that claim, however, since that VP probably needs to give a speech on Saturday and a big one on Wednesday.

One caveat about Richardson is that it seems the perfect time to announce him would have been when Obama was in New Mexico with him last Monday, exactly 7 days before the convention when VP's are normally announced.  Also, it just plain makes sense to have Richardson, one of the foreign policy whizzes in the party, speak on the day that has the theme of national security.  In addition, Obama owes Richardson a good speech in exchange for his endorsement.  I'm not disagreeing with you exactly, but keep that in mind!
