It can be from any series, though there are some series that I suspect will have more choices here than others.

For me, it would have to be "The City on the Edge of Forever" from TOS. Dramatic, touching, & complete with a real hard choice to make for the protagonists.

The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1.

My absolute favorite Trek episode ever. I love it, love it, love it. Smiley

My favorite episodes from the other series:

TOS: Balance of Terror
DS9: Duet
VOY: Message in a Bottle
ENT: Proving Ground

The Next Generation is my favorite series. I have a tough time deciding what my favorite movie is. II, VI, and First Contact are all up there.

I even have lots of Star Trek Micro Machines. Grin

I am boringly conventional on this:

TOS: City on the Edge of Forever
TNG: The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1
DS9: In the Pale Moonlight (occasionally, I change my mind and say The Visitor)
Voyager & Enterprise: not worthy of having best episodes  Wink

I would have to say, the "Best of Both Worlds."  However, I really wish they would have had the budget to to show the "Mars Defense Perimeter" battle.

There were a huge number of excellent episodes.

I think one unsung from the original series was "The Doomsday Machine."  "City" was excellent, as was "Errant of Mercy," and "Tomorrow is Yesterday," the first major time travel story.  "Amok Time," "Journey to Babel," Mirror, Mirror," and "Obsession," from the second.

Really? I've heard many people say that episode was excellent. The ones from TOS that I find to be really underrated are "Spectre of the Gun," & to a lesser extent, "The Changeling."

Balance of Terror
Mirror, Mirror
The Enterprise Incident

It annoys me how Star Wars is "cool" in popular culture, but Star Trek is "nerdy"

Wrong.  Both are supremely nerdy.

The stereotype though is that you're either a Star Trek person or a Star Wars person. Most people I know love Star Trek, but absolutely detest Star Wars. Smiley

I like the one where the 37 year old, single guy ventures out of his "bachelor pad" (his parent's basement) long enough to sign for the UPS man who is delivering his "action figure of the month" shipment.

Well then you are probably in the "nerd" crowd, no offense intended. Tongue

At high school, and even in college the nerds liked both, but Star Trek more while mostly everyone seemed to like Star Wars (through the movies of course).

I don't know the title of it, but it's a Next Generation Episode wear Picard dies because of his artificial heart, then Q gives him a chance to change his past so he keeps his real heart, and then he's no longer captain because he played it safe or something like that. (Q gives Picard a chance to go back again to re-fix everything.)

It's the episode Tapestry. It aired in the sixth season. I like that episode too, especially how Q acts to Picard. Grin
