Biden is allowed to run for the seat while seeking the Vice Presidency, so in theory, he could win another term, the Governor would appoint his son, and his son would run in 2010 for the full term.

You mean for the remaining four years of that term, right?

Whose son, Biden's or the Governor's?  And is Deleware's new Governor inaugarated before or after Senators beginning a full term?  Would Ruth Minner get to appoint the Senator for the next two years if Biden and Obama-Biden won both of their elections, or would it be up to whomever's elected to replace her?  And if the latter, or regardless, is it pretty clear who will be elected Governor in Delaware this year or is it at least somewhat up in the air?

Biden's son; after January 3, but Biden can hold the seat until January 19, I believe.  It depends on when Biden resigns; Biden could resign after January 3, but before the GOP takes office in Delaware, but it seems likely the Lt. Governor, a Democrat, will win.

The primary for the Senate Seat is in early September...the filing deadline has passed, and Biden's the only Democratic candidate.

The next Governor of Delaware will also take office on January 3rd, so that might make the timing a bit funny.

The Governor takes office on the third Thursday in January, not January 3.

Why apologizing to me? I'm sure he would be. I just don't care for his ideology. So what?

Filing deadline is over. I assume Biden keeps his name on the ballot for Senate, and the governor would appoint another Democrat in his place.

I suspect it'll be his son, who, in a funny coincidence, is actually qualified for the job.

The Dems are lucky that Carney is likely to win the Gubernatorial race this year. Otherwise, this would have been a nice pick up for the GOP if Obama-Biden won. BRTD would have went through the roof.

His son’s being deployed for Iraq. Would that complicate things at all?

I’m not sure how’d that work, really. Would he still be attorney general if he was overseas, or would he have to step down?

Haha, Beau Biden's wikipedia page already mentions his father's VP selection and his possible replacement for the senate.  But yeah, he's going to Iraq in October and terms of duty usually lasts more than three months.

Here's their source:
There’s only one scenario that could make the 2008 race for United States Senator in Delaware competitive, and that’s if Barack Obama picks the six-term incumbent, Joe Biden, as his running mate.  And a replacement Democratic candidate for Biden – possibly retiring Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, maybe Biden’s son, state Attorney General Beau Biden – would only be threatened if the Republicans couldn’t pull their candidate, TV pundit Christine O’Donnell – and recruit someone with a stronger base and ability to raise money.

Is "would have went" a Pennsylvania thing?

Wikipedia shows Ruth Ann Minner having taken office on January 3rd back in 2001...which was certainly not the third Thursday.  Have the rules changed since then, or *gasp* is Wikipedia wrong?

They take office the 3rd Thursday in January; Miner took office January 3rd because Tom Carper was elected Senator.

Should Republicans somehow pick up the seat this November, Biden could just resign in late December and let Minner appoint his successor before the Republican takes office.  It's certainly been done before (specifically with Dan Quayle in Indiana, 1988—his appointment was named before Evan Bayh took office in 1989).
