If he took Christine Todd Whitman, he'd win the election.

The woman who is near universally panned for her stewardship of both the EPA and New Jersey?  Yeah.

I have yet to hear someone suggest that competency at governing is an actual criterion for winning elections.

I think it was certainly a factor in her abandoning her 2000 Senate campaign.

Well, that and the "arresting a dangerous black man" photo-op that surfaced in 2000. Which alone probably makes her ineligible for any elected office ever again.

Drudge on McCain's running mate:

http://www.drudgereport.com/

SOURCE: NAME MAY LEAK AT 6 PM ET... WITH SOME SORT OF CONFIRMATION AT 8 PM... DEVELOPING...

Which wouldn't surprise me in the least given that McVain just can't handle Obama hogging the limelight. Sometimes I wish the focus was on McCain a bit more and on Obama a bit less

Then again any effort to hold that man accountable, for what he says and does, by the mainstream media (as in withdrawing his free pass) would only be spun as evidence of a pro-Obama bias. In other words, a win-win for McCain on that score

On CNN, they just said that the McCain campaign might put out an official statement late tomorrow night (after Obama's speech) announcing who the running mate choice is.

Well, tomorrow, would be the gentlemanly thing to do Smiley

No way has McCain not decided yet.  He's just saying that to make any leaks and tips less definite.

Pawlenty would be eaten alive by Joe Biden. I just can't see it. I actually think Lieberman is more likely than him.

I didn't take that to be a prediction about Powell specifically.  Just a prediction that more crazy rumors would surface....and that a rumor about Powell being in the mix is an example of how crazy the rumors could get.

Also, this would make the selection of Lieberman rather awkward:

Eww, Romney being picked would probably mean he's going to be gracing our state with his presence a lot more.

This thread seems to suggest 1)  McCain has made up his mind, and 2) it is Pawlenty. Frankly, he's the most logical safe choice. The only issue is whether Biden will beat him up. Is Pawlenty mean enough to counter-punch, and kick Joe where it hurts, and enjoy it?

a Biden/Pawlenty debate could look an awful lot like the Bentsen/Quayle debate.  not a good idea.  McCain needs to go with the intellectual.

Well, they are simply quoting exactly the same posts from Ambinder that I quoted here:
