On a side note I need someone to convince me that this won't give the parties too much power. What happens if a party gets a majority in the senate and uses this legislation to discriminate against the other rival parties?

Atlasian parties aren't coherent enough to do that.

Also it's entirely possible to do that right now too. By giving your party, which has over 5 members, benefits and support.
Not really... unless your party is the only party over 5 members.

At least that's how I've always interpreted the Constitutional Provision. Tongue

The amendment to the proposed Amendment has passed.

Aye 5 or 6 (Torie, Colin*, Verily, DWTL, Bacon King, Sensei)
Nay 1 (Lewis)
Abstain (voted) 1 (Culture King)
Abstain (didn't vote) 2 or 3 (Al, Jas, Meeker)

*we don't have rules on who has the right to change Colin's vote yet. The amendment has enough votes to pass anyhow.

Colin has left the Senate? Who is considered the legislation's (which, as it already is on the floor, remains there) sponsor now?
Nobody? That would imply that certain procedures (friendly amendments, withdrawing) are not possible anymore, although most major procedures are unaffected.

The vote is on adoption of the Constitutional Amendment.

Please vote aye, nay or abstain.

As a Constitutional Amendment, this requires 7 ayes to adopt, 4 (nays+abstains) to fail. And if we don't get to either within 7 days, I haven't the slightest clue whether the vote goes on and on or the amendment has failed, so please don't let it happen and show some activity for a change, okay? Meanwhile, voting has been open for a week. I can find no precedent of a vote on an amendment expiring after a week with a majority for but passage not yet assured.

I motion for an injunction to keep voting open for another 72 hours, ie until September 21st, 4:20 am. Under the terms of Article V, Section 1, Clause 2 of the OSPR (as amended), this will have to be seconded by one other Senator. If noone seconds my motion for an injunction (OSPR doesn`t say how quickly this has to happen), or if someone does but Al or Meeker does not vote until the 21st, I will rule the amendment to have failed.
So sue me.

I still need somebody to second the injunction motion. Grin

After somebody does that, I will rule that I'll count the votes cast in the interim, and give you 24 hours (counting from Meeker's vote) to change your votes before sending the amendment to the people.

Vote count

Aye 7 (Dwtl, Bacon King, Jas, Sensei, Torie, Verily, Meeker)
Nay 3 (Culture King, Lewis, Al)

This Amendment has enough votes to pass. Senators have until 2:40am ET tomorrow to change their votes.

24 hours having elapsed, this Amendment has passed the Senate.
