I though this was going to be about those arrests the Denver authorities made of people who were planning to assassinate Obama.

If Obama manages to say something of substance...

The real test for me will be the debates.

Obama doesn't have to say something of substance to emotionally manipulate me.  (not that any politicans say anything of substance in convention acceptance speeches, but that's another story).  his post-Iowa speech was so amazing that I didn't quite know what had hit me.  I'm sure I'll snap right out of it after he runs as far right as he can over the next few months, but he could make me his baby tonight.  not that he cares.

I have the opposite worry. I'm staying up to 3am (GMT where I am) to watch the speech and I worry that it won't be inspirational enough to keep me awake!

sad...but true.

That reminds me of something my Mom told me a couple days ago. We were talking about U.S. politics and she brought up the subject of Biden's selection by Obama. My Mom had previously made many comments to the effect of 'Obama's too young, I don't trust him' and 'McCain's the only really solid pick'. When she mentioned Biden she suddenly began speaking about how much weight he brought to the ticket and what a good choice he was.

I asked her if she'd change her vote now. She said it was possible. GoBama!

I'm nervous because there's a good chance that I might miss Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field whilst I'm out of the house sometime this morning or early afternoon Tongue

As for Obama's acceptance speech later today, I hope (no pun intended Wink) that Senator Obama will deliver an excellent speech, similar to the one he made upon winning the Iowa Caucus, I have a gut feeling that he won't. However, I do hope to be pleasantly surprised later today.

Don't worry. Expectations for this speech are so high that he can't possibly meet them.

I think he could pass out copies of SC speech and then go home; it was a outstanding.  His rhetoric is great.

Maybe I'll read the transcript of the speech before it comes out. But I'm not really a big fan of his preacher inflection and he rarely says anything of substance.

Since when do politicians say anything of substance?

Since when do politicians say anything of substance?

Mark Warner did, and his speech was universally panned.

Joe Biden did, and his speech was met with lukewarm reception.

Anyone else think it would be funny if Obama fell off the stage?

I said that Mark Warner's speech was far better than Bob Casey's specifically because he included substantive details.

Biden gave a pretty good speech and made some excellent points on McCain's mistakes in foreign policy.

It's the sermon on the mount, what else can you expect but perfection? Are the refreshments going to be loaves and fishes and after he'll turn the water into koolaid?

Which is precisely why politicians rarely speak with substance.  If their speeches aren't filled with platitudes and "feel good" rhetoric, the crowd falls asleep.

Don't you just love politics?  Smiley
