No, this is a ridiculous pick. He is so blatantly pandoring to women and the media should crush him for this selection. It shows his poor judgement.

No, but neither is Obama entirely.

That said, while qualifications are important, they're not the only thing people should consider.

Since she has just about as much or even more executive experience as Obama, sure.  Don't forget that Obama has spent lots of his senate term on advertising his book.

She's just as qualified as Obama is to be President.

What's her educational background and what did she do before becoming Mayor?

I'm curious how many people can even answer those questions before announcing she's more qualified than Obama...

Okay... and you claim Obama is not qualified to be President, so why would it be acceptable for Palin to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency?

Try not to fall into these traps too easily!

She's under-qualified (this isn't a binary), but there are other judgments than experience, which shouldn't be held up as a litmus test.  Otherwise Obama would be dead in the water.

And therein you have the McCain counter.

What does Palin offer to make up for her lack of experience?

I wonder if McCain would have chosen an ugly woman.  Any bets?

That statement strikes me as the Obama counter, not the McCain counter. Whatever.

That does open him up to some weakness, though.  The Democrats can argue that he never believed the "superiority of experience" argument, and just used it for political gain; there, they avoid this being about Palin, and shift it over to McCain.  It's probably their best recourse in an otherwise bad situation.

But it's just as much of an Obama counter as it is a McCain one.

As far as I know, she's over 35 and American born so yes, she is qualified.

That doesn't mean that it's not a blatant pander though.

That.  I don't think she's ready to be President.  Good thing she's not being nominated to be President.

What's her educational background and what did she do before becoming Mayor?

I'm curious how many people can even answer those questions before announcing she's more qualified than Obama...

BINGO.

And the media (and Obama hacks) can't attack McCain for the pick without attacking Obama by implication.

Which is why this was an outstanding pick.

The worshipers of "the one" are devastated because "the messiah" was just pwned.
Well,McCain now can't attack Obama on his lack of experience, since that would mean attacking Palin too,and himself for picking her...oh,McSame was just pwned.

The former Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska...

The current, first term governor of a state with 600-thousand residents...

The former Miss Alaska....

Versus...

A former editor of the Harvard Law Review...

A former, multi-term state senator in a populous state...

A former community organizer in America's third largest city...

A first term Senator with experience on the Foreign Relations and Armed Services committee...

Obama wins the experience battle, hands down.

But I would still prefer Biden at the top of the ticket.

Thank you.

I looked on Wikipedia, her education was a journalism major from the University of Idaho.

Interestingly, her husband's a Yupik Eskimo.

Too bad that he's been saying that Obama isn't qualified for months...
