Here are the toplines.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/109951/Palin-Unknown-Most-Americans.aspx

Obama's pick of Biden makes 14% of voters more likely to support him; 7% less likely.
McCain's pick of Palin makes 18% of voters more likely to support him; 11% less likely.

(Both picks registered better than Bush's pick of Cheney in 2000.)

Favorability ratings:
Palin 22+ / 7-
Biden 34+ / 15-

Qualified to be President?
Palin 39% yes / 33% no
Biden 57% yes / 18% no

The sky has not fallen.

I also saw the Rasmussen poll on that, neither of which are surprising.

The key point is that there's greater upside and downside to the pick, which should be obvious.  Right now, it's a wash with Biden, except there are no Hillaryites to get angry over it (who probably appear in the less likely to vote list at that time).

Clearly no one can beat the gold standard, John Edwards.

I'd like to wait a few days until people actually know who Palin is.  I'm impressed that most of the partisans seem to have restrained themselves.

well from that it looks like cheney was perceived as a better pick than either of them, really (with one point more negative than biden).  hm.

Palin is still new.  We didn't see the Joementum until last Tuesday.

Palin has the potential to be a game changer.   It is still too early to tell if she is.

They still need to do a useless poll of "Biden/Obama v. Palin/McCain!"

You really don't need to spin everything. You really don't.

Who's spinning.  I'm saying we're not going to get even a post bounce result until Monday or Tuesday.  We won't be able to factor out the post GOP convention bounce until the the September 10-15.

Of course, if you'd like, we can look at Zogby Interactive.  I'd rather not.

useless poll.  we won't know palin's impact for awhile. most of the press still doesn't even know how to pronounce her name.  even some of the republican mouthpieces aren't sure yet.

I'm not exactly a "Republican Mouthpiece," but it is too early to tell.  The announcement was 48 Hours ago.  Tuesday, we might get some idea from the tracking, if the sample is a good one.  I really am not expecting solid number for 10-15 days.

Maybe we can tell that Palin wasn't a complete disaster today or midweek at the latest, but we're not going to see if she has is a "game changer" for a while.

Based on first impressions, it doesn't seem like the hillary voters bought it.

We might not see if she will be a disaster for awhile as well, considering that one of the biggest risks of her selection, is that she might commit a major gaffe at a critical time. Then again, there is also a possible chance that Biden might well do the same....

I'm sure some did go to McCain with the Biden announcement.  I'm sure some did with the Palin announcement.  How many?  Ask me in a about 10-15 days.

McCain gambled.  He probably won, maybe, but I have no idea how much.

I doubt it a "mouthpiece" would call Palin a "gamble."

that's pretty much a settled fact.  mouthpieces are humans, after all.
