I'm starting a series of threads naming former U.S. office holders and looking for your responses on three levels...

1.   What, if anything, did you like or dislike about them?  This could be policy, campaign tactics or just personality.

2.    What are they doing now?  If you know.  (If pushing up daisies, just ignore questions two and three.)

3.    Do you see them making a return of any kind to politics, either at the district, state or national level?  Why or why not? (In some cases, this will be obvious because of age, etc.)

So -- pulling a random name out of my political hat:  Former senator Slade Gorton (R).  Go.

Overall a good guy, although too conservative for me, and he gets points off for beating Warren Magnuson.  I don't see him making another comeback; he's already 80 years old, although that makes him the perfect age to run in 2012 Wink

Slade Gorton was before my time.  I know nothing about him, really.  My parents got me wear a "DEFEAT GORDON IN 2000" button at the fair once.  I still have it.

That's all.

Slade was my kind of guy. Calm, thoughtful, moderate, no hyperbole, a vanishing breed. I am still suffering from Alan Simpson withdrawal.

Another of my favorite Republicans, Torie.  Most of the R's who departed in the 90's were outstanding.

My opinion of the man is relatively positive, though that typically winds up being the case with blue-state Republicans.
