Hey Chris -- quick question --

I know beatification is the next step in the process toward sainthood.  Are those who are beatified given a title?  LOL -- Saint Elect?

Do some saints (small "s") simply remain beatified or do they lose that status if never achieving Sainthood (large "s")?

If you're too busy to respond, I understand.  Maybe someone else knows.  But I would rather get the information from someone who knows.  Jack Chick isn't the most reliable source...LOL

As far as I know those who beatified are simply addressed as 'Blessed.' I wrote a short essay on 'Blessed Joseph Vaz' a few years ago for theology. He was beatified in '95 I think. I wonder what happened to him.

Yup, the correct term is Blessed. Every kid in California learns about Blessed Junípero Serra in elementary school. Smiley

Oh, sorry, didn't see this.

They are labeled as "Blessed".  And no, one Blessed always Blessed unless some evidence comes up that they were a horrible person.  But not being made "Saint" isn't seen as a failure, as it were.

Thanks Chris.  I was wondering how that worked.  I know it works a little differently in Orthodox and Anglican circles but I think this makes the most sense.
