Someone needs to primary this joke in 2010. What a worthless waste.

Not that it matters, but editorial boards are ripping Andrews a new one.

Philadelphia Inquirer:
"His heart must speak with a forked tongue, or from a well of ambition so deep it would allow him to stand before the people of New Jersey and declare that he could not be taken at his word.

Politicians are entitled to changes of heart. But Andrews' very specific vow was the linchpin to a dubious scheme that party bosses devised to make sure they wouldn't be bound by the wishes of voters as expressed in the June 3 Democratic primary."

Courier-Post:
"In a district as overwhelmingly Democratic as the 1st District, Andrews is certainly a good bet to be re-elected. He will face little-known Republican Dale Glading of Barrington in November.

But it is disgraceful how this has come to pass. If Andrews was serious about not running for re-election he should have closed all the doors and burned all the bridges to getting back in. He shouldn't have allowed his wife to be put on the ballot as nothing more than a placeholder to keep the seat warm for him. He should have picked who he thought was the best Democrat from South Jersey to replace him and publicly endorsed that person.

Andrews did none of that. Instead, he reneged on his promise. Can we ever trust his word again?

And, once again, New Jersey politics are an embarrassment."

Gloucester County Times:
"Andrews' move is not unlike that of state Sen. Stephen Sweeney, D-3, who announced last fall that he was giving up dual offices and not running again for the Gloucester County freeholder board. It is only through a loophole that Sweeney can keep both offices. After accepting praise for doing the right thing, Sweeney changed his mind and he's a freeholder candidate again.

In both cases, Sweeney's and now Andrews', the perception is that these are acts of raw hubris; of a belief that no one else in a wide and deep Camden/Gloucester Democratic Party is qualified to handle congressional or freeholder director duties, and that no one else is worthy of an opportunity to try. Perhaps other Democrats will think about that before blindly casting votes to return either man to office this year."

I echo these sentiments.  I like Andrews' politics, but this whole matter is very disappointing to me to say the least.
