If this Sleaze Squad arrives at Wasilla City Hall, city officials should say to them

Welcome to Wasilla.  I hope you had a good trip up here to Alaska.

Now, turn around, take your muck raking back to wherever it is you came from, and have a nice day.

Yes, they should obstruct the inspection of public records.
Wasilla has no need for sleaze merchants.

They have no legitimate purpose to be in Wasilla, aside from distorting the truth and smearing Palin.

What else would one expect when these sleaze merchants are working for a Chicago Ward Healer and machine politician?

Laws should be applied selectively, based on the enforcers' perception of the ethical standards or the political leanings of the parties at hand.

I don't get it. The Democrats say they haven't sent anybody up here, but the Alaska Republican Party leader has said he's spoken face-to-face with a few of the "Sleaze Squad."

What the hell?

While the Dem's are drinking Kool-Aid, the Republicans are toasting an effective strategy.

An effective strategy of fabricating stories about "sleaze squad" movements, apparently?

In all probably there is true to the extent that campaigns send staffers to do opposition research (translated into "sleaze squads").  It is both normal and prudent.  There is probably truth to it, and it is being spun wildly by the GOP.

Again, is there any confirmation that Democrats airlifted 30 people into Alaska except for one Republican who claims he spoke with one Democrat ostensibly from this "sleaze squad"?

It's possible that both are right—this could be an independent 527 group like MoveOn or a union who intends to run negative ads on Palin.  After all, I would seriously hope that Team Obama doesn't want to make this election about Sarah Palin anymore than it already is.

I seriously doubt that 30 staffers all wearing matching sweatshirts with "Democratic Sleaze Squad" on the back showed up in Wasilla.  Smiley

There has been some, including getting the fairly recent Op-Research from the 2006 campaign.  http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/09/02/opposition_research_on_palin.html

It's legitimate to do this stuff.

Basically, unless they are complete idiots, they are checking.

They've also had the stuff from the 2006 campaign, which is up on the Internet by this point.

This is not unusual; it is not unethical.

I find it a little silly that the McCain campaign is actually making an ad about this. If anything, swing voters who find this unethical (and most probably don't: questions about her conduct in Alaska are definitely relevant to how she will do her job as Vice President, or potentially President) will probably assume that Republicans commit similar "abuses."

Obama hasn't lost, just like McCain hadn't lost two weeks ago and Obama hadn't lost two weeks before that. However, if Palin is still the main story a month from now and is still getting the same level of favorable press coverage, then I'll be inclined to agree with Phil's assessment.

Debunked, along with some other McCain campaign bullsh**t. Of course McCain doesn't like the facts, if this election was just about the facts, he'd be toast.

Okay, if the Obama campaign is looking at Palin's public background, it isn't doing anything unusual, dishonorable or unethical.  Come on, guys.  This stuff is normal.

Very, but OP-Research is very common.  Even if he had a 15 point lead in the polls, Obama would be wise to do it.
