Hell yes........when a bunch of old biddies or grade schoolers or women in underwire bras hijacks a plane and runs it into a building, then stop every damn one of them at the airport........but quick f'ing up the security lines double checking them now.

If they were smart they wouldn't be terrorists.  But yeah, I agree, until they wise up, we'd be stupid NOT to profile in airports.

Are you serious? I don't think we have to be racist about profiling but it can be done smartly. And security before 9/11 was a joke and frankly I was shocked when I first visited US airports in the 90's.

Flying is a privilege, not a right. They should profile people as much as they want.

it worked far more often than not and was better for everyone involved.  3000 lives are inconsequential in comparison to the millions inconvenienced each year with ridiculous airport security.

Look a family member of one of the victims in the eye, and tell her that. See if she or he agrees with you.

For me: of course, profiling, which doesn't need to be too obvious or offensive, is simple common sense. Doesn't mean we have to give worse treatment to people we consider to be riskier.

No.   Racial profiling = unconstiutional and a violation of civil rights.

obviously any policy is subject to harm certain people more than others.  for example, I believe the number of people that die in the USA each year due to lack of quality health care is 15-18k.  now can you look those families in the eye and tell them that universal health care is a bad idea?  probably not.  bringing up the death toll is nothing but an emotionally manipulative argument.

keep in mind that my suggestion will never happen not just because of enduring American paranoia about another attack, but mainly, because of how the economy structurally needs ridiculous airport security.  tens of thousands of jobs have been 'created' across the country for skill-less people looking for shoe-bombs and frisking people.  you'll probably find them at your local ballpark too.  putting these people out of work is not an option.

If *I* was on "the list" I'd still feel the same way, what does that have to do with anything?  It's stupid NOT to profile.

Will you still feel the same way when anti-gun democrats get their way and ban gun possession by people on "the list"?

That's a totally seperate thing there.  The Bill of Rights mentions nothing about traveling on other people's high tech and dangerous equipment, but it clearly brings up the rights of the individual to defend himself against others and the govt.  Of course I would be against the govt wholesale preventing anybody on "the list" to get a gun.

Haha seems like you hate yourself. Tongue The problem with that imo is that the terrorists will just find a crazy person who is not in that demographic to carry out their deeds. I am not as opposed to the "list" but I realized it also catches a lot of innocent people. Oh well, muslim people have way too similar of names.

This is a particularly foolish statement. Of course someone who's emotionally invested will have a certain opinion on an issue. That definitely doesn't mean they're right. As a casual traveler, I can deal with the security if it makes me feel safer and makes me safer (whether or not it does). I can definitely see why someone who flies 50 times a year would be pissed off about it.

I'd like to see a study on the economic cost of airport security and the economic cost of downed airliners or another 9/11.
