I'm not sure if McCain can break 60.  It's pretty polarized in Wyoming.

Wait, what the hell are those independent numbers?  Obama leading by 14?

I'm sorry. I can't see Obama breaking 40% in Wyoming of all places.

Gee...if Obama can break 40% in this area, especially polling like this during this bounce...it would make me very hopeful for the future.

I don't see an especially logical reason for Wyoming and Idaho being this divergent.

Ski bunnies? Who else is independent in Wyoming? Going by historical trends, I would expect Obama to do better than average among independents in Wyoming, but worse than average among Democrats (miners). And about equally poorly to elsewhere among Republicans, who are of course the lions' share of the electorate.

Really high Mormon enthusiasm for Palin? That's the only real difference between the two...

Mormons are approx 10% of the pop in WY and 33% in ID so Verily could be right about this.

Also didn't Palin grow up in Idaho? Not sure if that has an effect.

Yeah, Kansas was pretty close in a few polls, as well. ...but Mormons could be the key.

I don't see an especially logical reason for Wyoming and Idaho being this divergent.

Republican energy policies have been very divisive in Wyoming, undoing some of the sagebrush rebellion tendencies.

Palin was born in Idaho but her family moved to Alaska when she was 3 months old. She attended the University of Idaho, but I'm not sure what she studied/majored in.

I'd still figure Wyoming to be in the McCain+30 category, but 19 is still u noteworthy.
