From today's Economist front page.

The Jordanian results don't surprise me. I recall meeting a Jordanian guy (who, BTW, was very nice and respectful) who was convinced Israel and the Jews were behind 9/11.

It's disappointing to see fewer Italians believe that it was Al Qaeda compared to the French and more of them think that the U.S. government was behind the attacks.  Roll Eyes

The Africans know who did it, because they were victims also.

How the hell are Kenyans and Nigerians more informed than Germans or Brits?  I can understand China and the Muslim states, their state and religous leaders enjoy lying to them, but France?  Mexico?

It's their general attitude towards the U.S. foreign policy. That at least explains the European belief in the conspiracy theories.

I've noticed that the sub-Saharan African countries are always the most pro-US in these global polls. No idea why, though.

What's with 30% of Mexico blaming the Jews?

Whoa. Way to go Africa!! Smiley

But Turkey, the country with the second largest military in NATO, has the highest percentage of people who believe the US government was involved with the attack. O_o What gives?

in many surveys here in Europe, Turkey always has the least favorable opinion of the United STates in general.

The embassy attacks were in Kenya... Nigeria is at the other end of the continent. However, the London Underground bombings took place in the United Kindgom.

So, by this logic, Kenya and the UK should be at the top of that list, with Germany and Nigeria somewhere in the middle.

Actually, following the "Muslims blame the US/Jews for 9/11" logic, Nigeria should be somewhere at the bottom of the list. Half of Nigeria's population is Muslim.

Hmmm. That's odd. Then I wonder why they wanted in NATO to begin with.

Our United States Government is truly an amazing character according to the conspiracy.  It can elaborately plan the disappearance of four commercial aircraft and all their passengers, create false videos of planes crashing into buildings, plant thousands of fake witnesses, and get all the media to sign off on this scheme.  Yet it couldn't even think to dig a hole in the desert of Iraq, plant a WMD in it, and then "discover it" the next day.

Apparently it's supreme control and wittiness only goes so far.

Mexico is the most surprising result. It gives us a view of what mexican immigrants think of US foreign policy. And to be fair US foreign policy has always been the worst part about America. The things we have done in Latin America is absolutely despicable. F'in cold war........

I can vividly remember the Tanzania and Kenya embassy bombings of 1998, which were followed by Bill Clinton's ordering of missile strikes on a Sudanese pharmaceuticals plant and Afghanistan. I was in San Jose at the time buying a laptop for 7th grade.

Good chunks of Mexico are rabidly anti-American. Did you hear about the 2006 election fuss with Obrador? Huge parts of southern, poverty stricken Mexico hates America, hates much of the anti-drug stuff and is still extremely Socialist thinking.

Yep and the sad part is that some act like they act like the left-wing "revolution" in 2006 was a bi surprise. I mean lots of Latin America have very, very good reasons to dislike us, why should we surprised that Chavez hates us so much when we tried to coup him?

There are some pretty fishy things with 9/11. While obviously Al Qaeda was behind the attacks, the Bush administration didn't exactly do much to prevent the attacks. There are certainly plenty of things to feed into the conspiracy theories. However the controlled demolition of the WTC and missile fired at the Pentagon bullsh**t are just bullsh**t.

They were bordering the Soviet Union? That being said, NATO probably wanted them as members just as much. Turkey controls the entrance to the Black Sea after all... and it's a good location to put some missiles.

Oh, ok. I get it now. Smiley Yeah, Turkey is prime real estate over there. If my memory is accurate, the U.S. did have missiles there, but removed them as part of the agreement to get the Soviets to remove theirs from Cuba.
