On an official publication, it'd be plagiarism.

If it's sent to you directly and without assumption of confidentiality, yes; as with any form of communication.

I think this would be the correct answer. However, I'm not 100% sure.

Depends on the jurisdiction, of course.

Somebody posted an e-mail I sent that contradicted something that I told a reporter (who misquoted me and the paper later issued a correction).  Then they started posting things on their organizations blog saying that I lied to the reporter.

The organization took down the part that said that I lied, but they still say that my e-mail contradicts what I "reportedly" told the reporter.

Even with the assumption of confidentiality, it wouldn't be against the law to post the material.

If you signed a contract stating you wouldn't post the information and you went ahead and posted it anyway, they could sue you for breach of contract and effectively garnish a sum equal to the damage caused to them by its posting.

But an e-mail sent to you without the proper procedure of copyright or prior contract obligation is as much yours as it is the sender's.

That's what I figured...but I am currently looking into filing a libel suit.

I think you will be soundly disappointed.
