I find funny that some Americans use Latin numbers in names, like a will to make some small dynasties, I can't think of an other country in which this is being done...

Was going to respond Gully's sig:

French philosophers should stop with their contempt toward the current society, they all finish embittered and frustrated, which is surely the boomerang of their contempt. It carries nothing to the debate actually, it just shows a bad image of their analyzes that can be relevant.

Badiou is not alone, there is an other very famous French current philosopher worldwide (famous for those who get interest in philosophy), I can't remember his name, he's particularly listened in South-America I know, and maybe even fought with leftist movements there, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone sees who I refer to. He has that same behavior.

There is also an other one French scientist/"thinker", Yves Pacalet, who goes further, the literal translation of his last book being "Human specie will disappear, good riddance!"

Back to the chain of sig comments:

So he needed a f**ing poll to know whether or not he was a Christian??

Only saw this now. I think you are thinking of Regis Debray.

Anyway actually I agree with the sentiment - actually I strongly dislike contemporary misanthropy which can be seen with the Green Movement and certain elements within modern Conservatism (especially in the U.S). I just like the Quote.

I like Deserts (as an idea). Reading Dune as a young teenager does that to you.

Yes, it is Régis Debray, thank you.

And yes, you're right, the Yves Pacalet I was speaking about is an hard ecologist.

I love the first quote on the other hand.

Come on, it's France. Have you ever been to Bangladesh in summer?

For the record, I haven't.

Yeah. One poster with a Star Wars sig is enough.

Come on, it's France. Have you ever been to Bangladesh in summer?

For the record, I haven't.

Héhé, you know, when I posted this, I was overall thinking to the absence of people within the country, most of them take their vacations on August, a lot of shops are closed. Even on Saturday, the most popular day for shopping, actually, streets are kind of a little desert, even in big cities, like Paris or Toulouse from what I've directly heard, especially for Paris, though, I must say there is  some of a little come back of people after the 15th of August, an important free day in the French calandar concerning vacations.

That being said a matter of time after I found amusing that this metaphor also suits with the high to very high temperatures we are having here. I assume you were speaking of temps with Bangladesh, of course we're not such a country for this, though, actually, 40C, 104F, is something here, and we got numerous days at more than 35C, 95F, this summer, though mainly in south-west the north of the country hasn't been really touched, and when I watch weather of other countries on international news channel, I don't find a lot of places outside of Middle-East that beats the temps we have here these days.

Anyways, well, if it would have been about the presence of people you would be right, Bangladesh would certainly over beat us, August or not.

No offense, but this poster for health care made me think to something like:

Disney Pixar presents...!

That said, I support by principle that a human society take care of the health of its citizen, so i would support the principle of this project, though i don't know the details of it.

Second part: I don't think this guy is a fascist...

He doesn't happen to live in Owings Mills, Maryland, does he?  (A place I recall fondly as being where Wall $treet Week and A.M. Weather came from.  You youngsters don't know what you missed by not seeing A.M. Weather, which was a 15-minute daily program only a weather geek could love.)
