I think he just looks at what the other firms are doing and tweaks his methodology to give the opposite results so that his polls are more exciting. 

The other firms are showing Virginia all tied up?  The Republicans are surging.  The other firms are showing North Carolina out of reach for Obama?  He's ahead.
