What could you take solice in if your candidate loses

Pretty much the same as icing on the cake. Only if you lost, what would be the least painful way?
To me would be that young people show up in record numbers. We win OH, but lose PA or WI (unlikely). Lose by about 2% nationally, and exit polls indicate everyone voted on partisan lines, but McCain carries independents, indicating that race was not a major factor. The next day there is no whining, no riots, and life goes on.

There's going to be a lot of pain in this country because of Bush even if Obama wins. If McCain wins, things will be even worse.

Huge gains in both houses of Congress.
Wouldn't be much solace, but it'd be something at least. Would at least prove it was a completely personal victory and not a partisan one.

House and Senate gains.
And the fact that no matter how much I disagree with John McCain, he is still an honorable man and much better than Bush, "Lord of the Idiots".
If Jill Long Thompson were to come from behind and help us ditch Mitch, then I'd actually feel pretty good.

"After you, the deluge."
Unfortunately, that will be the same thing I say if my candidate wins.

Huge gains in both Houses of Congress; maybe Warner breaking 70% as well.

It will expose the collectivist economic idiocies.
Sort of like how Nixon's implementation of price/wage controls destroyed support for those measures.

Agreed. I expect McCain to discredit himself and the GOP's myths more so than Bush. I expect Obama to pretty much demolish whatever hopes liberals had in pushing forward the more idiotic aspects of their agenda (sort of like Clinton did).

I guess a small end to partisanship. I hate this red state/blue state bs.
We are all Americans and we need to work together to solve problems.
We are not really united in one way or the other. It just seems like no one
wants to hear another opinion. I was hoping that this campaign would be
a little different but both sides are really nasty.
And personally I wish I could blow up some of the talking heads that just
seem to throw gasoline on the fire. Ann Coulter immediately comes to mind.

If I live through the imminent depression, I will become a stronger individual for it.
I will also be able to tell my grandchildren that I had it much harder than them.

If Frank M. Kratovil, Jr manages to beat Andy Harris for Wayne Gilchrest's seat, showing once and for all the moderate Republicanss are stronger than conservative ones. Also a big win for Mark Warner.

Filibuster proof House and Senate. Hopefully there would be a lot of new Democrats with some balls who would actually stand up to McCain.
