There's a difference between exceeding expectations and winning.
She'll win, in reality. The media just keeps unfairly demonizing her. Charlie Gibson sneering down his nose with his low glasses, Katie Couric, the frozen cold b*tch with no personality. She really hasn't had the best of interviewers except Sean Hannity. Most of this, is of course, because the leftists can't stand a woman who isn't pro-choice and doesn't stand for all that socialist crap.

That's ludicrous.  It is obvious that she has no clue as to what's going on.  Really, she has never demonstrated a solid grasp of the issues over the past month.

There is one thing that she could be very successful at, connecting with the public.

Is that what you gathered when you sat down and discussed the issues with her?

I have watched the interviews and the televised speeches.  That's all we have to go on.

Yes, and much of that has been spun harder then a cotton candy machine. Do you really think Charlie and Katie wanted to do anything besides smear her?

Her responses speak for themselves.  Unless someone told her to say those things.

Have someone hostile to your political leanings corner you with a camera in your face and tell me you wouldn't trip up. Especially considering that I highly doubt you've spent much time in the public eye, much like Governor Palin.

How is this about me?  I'm not running for vice president of the United States.  I hold my leaders and would-be leaders to a bit of a higher standard than I would myself on things such as, say, knowledge of current international events or of McCain's platform on such issues.

If your argument is that she's qualified because she's not worse than the average person, that's a pretty low and pretty sad standard.

She's the Governor of a state. Quite obviously she is qualified for the job. I'm only using you as an example.

I really don't understand how her being the best option on a ballot in Alaska in 2006 informs her on the wealth of issues a vice president of this nation must be conversant in.  She simply hasn't shown herself to be up to the job, as I have perceived both her understanding of issues of major importance and the responsibilities of the office to which she could ascend.

Ok, I guess we're at an impasse here.

Who determines what the "qualifications" are? Was Al Gore qualified and probably about another VP candidates that I can't think of. Face it, the VP is the least important person on the ticket, requires the least experience and is irrelevant in almost any administration.

Any objective observer can see that Palin is off her game, but to blame the media for picking on her is the essence of the victim mentality the Republicans so love to criticize, and often rightly so, in others.

Bottom line is this: She was good in the Alaska governor's debate because, uhm, it's Alaska and she knew the score about a few things up there. She's in over her head on a national level, or sure has given that appearance, but if she doesn't fumble too many times and plays a kind of Woody Hayes, straight up-the-middle offense while mixing in the occasional "Hail Mary" to potentially knock Biden offstride, she might be able to maintain her place  on the ticket.

The bailout rejection knocked her to the back burner Monday, so it's likely she will show for the debate Thursday.

Let's just hope the big bad liberal media reporters don't beat up on her too much. She's using the "gotcha" journalism line as a defense for her gaffes, and it won't wash unless she can somehow dramatically rally voters to her side in the debate. You know, she might even try one of those lines like StatesRights used in this thread, somehow trying to turn it around and make an issue out of a reporter's question.

That might be the GOP's best bet at this point, anyway: Play the victim, blame the media and try to equate Palin's governorship of Alaska with Al Gore's time in the U.S. Senate or Dick Cheney's years in  Congress and as a D.C. insider.

We'll see.

Well, the anti-McCain media is not a myth, it's a reality, sorry Punditty.

I would feel sorry for Palin, except for what she said about community organizers.

Yeah, so obviously that means Obama couldn't have admired him.

I think Palin will do OK. She is great with soundbites. Her problem in interviews has always been with follow up question, but the debate rules really makes such a situation unlikely. Plus she can win on style.

So based on expectations, I think she will win by tying (like Obama did).

Of course she could fall into one of her babbling nonsense comments and that could change all that
