Obama is fumbling this one bad!!!

He answers McCain's "failure to meet with Petraeus" point with :"I'm proud of my VP selection."

WHAT!!!???!

I'd say Obama just gave a nice soundbite that's going to get alot of play.

Only correction I'd make is that McCain is still wrong.

God knows if I can be objective. I think Obama seems more presdential, Mccain is hitting out with everything he has, some are connecting, a lot missing. Mccain using a lot of campaign talking points, perhaps too many, seems cliche. Obama on the back foot a lot but hardly flustered., but is missing some easy comebacks. Mccain being condescending. Its very aggressive from both sides.

Whoah, this thread:

Can someone partially objective give me a heads up as to what's going on?

They're both just going back and forth. McCain is saying the surge has worked and that Obama has refused to meet with Petraeus. Obama is saying that McCain forgets that the war started in 2003, not 2007 and that McCain said back then that we would be seen as liberators and that the strategy would work.

McCain uses the good old, "he voted against funding the troops." Obama counters with "we should end the war responsibly. We should do it in fazes and in 16 months we should be able to remove our troops and send more troops to Afghanistan to take Bin Laden."

Mccain is being incredibly condescending. I don't know how that will play out with the public though. It just seems like the indies and the democrats seem to be agreeing more than indies and republicans.

That whole part where he listed all the areas McCain was wrong about the war. I thought it was effective, at least.

I think Obama is pwning this one so far but I'll gladly admit that I'm not anywhere near objective on this.

Why is everyone in this thread so hackish?

Personally, I don't think that either of them are doing so well.

Well, he destroyed McCain on the economy. On foreign policy it's closer but Obama is providing more specifics.

Obama’s inexperience is coming through loud and clear. He seems frustrated and of course at a loss for words sometimes. He also looks over at Lehrer at times as if to say “aren’t you going to rescue me.”

Indeed. Either way, I think Obama wins this one. He was leading before it, and since McCain has so far failed to really be considered the "victor" of this debate, he's the loser by default. But we still have half the debate left, on what's supposed to be McCain's best issue. Let's see if he can turn it around.

I wouldn't say bad, I would say he's not doing particularly well.

Pretty much a wash if you ask me.  If Obama continues to pound McCain on judgement leading up to Iraq and McCain continues to pound Obama on the surge... you basically get a wash.
