I can't believe I'm feeling nostalgic for Bush's 30 second pauses, "You forgot Poland", and random "Let me finish". That at least added character to the debate.

I think what made (at least to me) the '04 debate more interesting was (in addition to Bush's gaffes), the tone of the '04 debate was more broad in scope, and less about details and particulars that few people care about. That, and Bush brings everything down in overarching tone, for better or for worse.

I think Mccain's gotten better, but he's sounding too mean for the average voter I think. May be  a turn off.

Not a hack, but McCain *owned* Obama there.  Seriously.  The audience laughed at his mocking of Obama.

I, for once, agree. He did finally wake up from his snooze and attacked him.

Most voters have no idea about the "obama - seal" incident.

Ooh that last bit was rough. Of course irrelevant but that doesnt matter. Ahmadinajad would never say " destroy israel" while meeting with an American president. Of course logic does not matter. The cnn audience didn't like it though.

At this rate T. Boone Pickens won’t have any energy policy to discuss after the debate. I think McCain may have mentioned energy once, but that’s it.

True, if I was the kind of person who would use the word 'owned'

McCain doesn't want to meet with the President of Iran, because then there would be TWO lunatics in the room.

I think McCain has woken up in the past few minutes... but of course I think Obama is doing really well.  McCain sounds like he's uncomfortable or something.

McCain has successfully defined Obama with this debate.

"Obama just doesn't understand."

He has nailed that line several times, in the midst of explaining policy issues that Obama clearly knows nothing about.

One thing here is for certain.  This debate is much more heated than we've seen in a while and much more heated than I expected when it was apparent whom the two nominees were.

Too bad Mccain is the one who doesn't understand.

McCain is crazy negative and lying. Amazing that George W Bush ran an honest campaign in comparison.

Some of the reporters' liveblogging I'm reading, like Marc Ambinder, note McCain has never met Obama's gaze.  Weird.

"Obama just doesn't understand."

He has nailed that line several times, in the midst of explaining policy issues that Obama clearly knows nothing about.

and yet, Obama has then demonstrated amazing knowledge of every issue that thisline has been used on. I am in fact, incredibly impressed with his grasp of the facts and of his positions, more so than my partisan leaning would suggest.

Now go back to trolling...
