Inspired by the Favorite/Least favourite politicians thread.  Clearly "favorite" is the correct spelling.  Tongue

I live in the United States, so I spell it "favorite." Then again, I once wrote "behaviour" on an essay without thinking about it. Must be the English blood in me. Tongue

As much as I love the Brits, I spell it the correct way.

Once, I went to Chinatown on a field trip. They served us tea. Not only did I drink it, but I liked it! Before long, I'll be speaking with an authentic British accent. Tongue

Favorite. I'm happy that Americans refuse to add 'u' to words where it makes no sense. 'Favourite' just looks stupid.

I'm an American, so I don't stick U's where they shouldn't be.

Favorite.  Dropping the U was simply an American attempt to make the English language more simple.

That's why most other metals end with "ium" but aluminum ends just in "um"... this is because they tried to do it with all of them, but only the aluminum one stuck.

The one that really gets me is the British spelling of tire and jail:  Tyre and gaol.  Or Aeroplane rather than airplane.

Some more than really confuse me

Diarrhea is diarrhoea
esophagus is oesophagus
pediatric is paediatric
maneuver is manoeuver

Another one where I agree with the English

ensure and insure have two different meanings.

You ensure that your child has enough to eat while you insure your vehicle in case of an accident.

Favourite. Which is closer to how I say the word anyway (ie; no "o" sound).

If we had phonetic spellings: "faivrit", but if we want to acknowledge the etymology, "favorit" (from the the Italian "favorito") would be acceptable.

This is why everyone else in the world agrees that Americans don't speak English.

Favourite... and colour, labour, etc. Oh and I tend to use 's' instead of 'z' in words like 'realize' and sometimes I use 'tre' instead of 'ter' like in 'theatre' (but not others like 'center').

Using the u just always made the word seem more complete to me. I can't say why.. maybe subconsciously I felt like the sound I was making needed another vowel to properly differentiate. Or I was destined to join the Commonwealth!

However, I will never use 'tyre' or 'gaol.' There's a line.

Same here; I always put my 'u's and I tend to use 'ise' instead of 'ize' etc
