What I was just thinking about. People here frequently accuse me of being ignorant and narrow-minded about suburbs, all suburbs are just sprawling masses of McMansions with no culture, etc. However is it much different from how suburbanites view urban areas? Because many DO think in such narrow terms as well. Hell just read my former archenemy on the topic, dazzleman's posts for one example and the comment I used to rail at him about how cities are "unbearable" for families.

Is thinking all urban centers are nothing but filthy cesspools of drugs and violence any different than thinking all suburbs are nothing but lily-white sterile lands of boredom?

No, but the fact that you understand it makes it inexcusable.

Does one close-minded view justify another (opposite) close-minded view?

I approve of this post. In fact, I think that it is so good that I am almost tempted to see if it's taken from somewhere else.

Wait, are you arguing that you may be close-minded, but not any more close-minded than other foolish people that misjudge places categorically?  That would seem to be an argument to cause you to reject your own beliefs.

That reminds me of Xahar saying "I might be close-minded about the economy, but Republicans are close-minded about the Middle-East!"

Yes, some people who live in suburbs hold ignorant stereotypical views that they apply to all urban areas. So what? That doesn't justify your own willful ignorance. You seem to have it in your head that because other people do something wrong it's ok for you to be wrong in the opposite way - it isn't, so stop already.
