Because...there were great movies and music during the last Depression.  "In olden days a glimpse of stocking..."

...our mortgage wasn't one of those high risk ones so we have a great rate and a decent payment, the cars are paid off, and DH is making more now than he has in his entire professional career, plus we have money in the bank.  Smiley

Oh yeah,  and in two days I get to escape for a weekend!

Oh, it is indeed an awesome song. Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman. I'll have to give you some MP3s of my favourite jazz some time...

Conor, I don't know if you're old enough to remember this song being the theme song for Melbourne Tourism, and they may not have played the ads down here, but they used to run them back home in Brissie back in the I guess late 90s... it was before the "Run Rabbit, Run Rabbit, Run, Run, Run..." ads, but still when they were doing the black and white "classic Melbourne" look.

Smid, I'm sure those ads weren't run in Melbourne. Smiley

They used to run Queensland Tourism ads in Queensland and indeed the Brisbane Tourism ads in Brisbane, too... I never understood that, but figured the same might apply to Melbourne Tourism ads running in Melbourne.

I think the Queensland and Brisbane ones were partially to let the people know that the Government was doing something to promote the state/city interstate, but possibly also to try to stem outbound interstate tourism, particularly when Victoria was running their "Unlock every piece of Victoria" ads with beautiful scenery of winding mountain drives through rainforest, the Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles, not to mention the black-and-white classic Melbourne ads with their funky jazz background music...

Queensland Tourism Ad:

I love how the other cities (and I spotted a US flag, a lot of Melbourne including Fed Square and the Bridge where I proposed, London Underground station, Sydney Opera House) are all greyed out, and then Queensland's bright and in full colour.
