I favor dropping it and letting gays join and be open about it.  It's time.

Perhaps I live in a cocoon, but does the military truly still care if anyone is gay?

Right now if you can breathe and carry a rifle, they'll take you and ship you out in 6 weeks.

Silliness......all of it.

I don't really care anyway.  I'm not going to ask, and if someone tells me, then I'm going to beat their ass, plain and simple.

And is it just me, or does anyone else here not want a bunch of fairies defending their country?  "Oh, I broke a nail.  Let me borrow your mascara."  The limp-wristed bastards.

I'm not trying to question the motives of gay soldiers, but what better way to get some wang than to take advantage of someone with post-traumatic stress disorder?

Please, everyone.  Let's get serious.  All soldiers have enough on their hands.  They don't need to have a bunch of queers running around, giggling and playing grab-ass with each other when they're under enemy fire.  Until gay soldiers can prove they're up to the task, they're not allowed in the Army.  Plain and simple.

I wonder if VB knows that that army known for its candy assed ways, the Israeli army, allows out of the closet queers to join and mince around the bases.

And womenfolk, too. But it's because they haven't found Jesus yet.

Non-issue, its working well to my knowledge so why make a big debate over it?  Calling attention to the issue only makes it worse for gays

Actually, the military is losing Arabic translators and suffering a shortage due to the policy.

According to The Economist many issues ago, at least.  But I'm sure it's corroborated elsewhere.

I don't have a problem with don't ask don't tell. That being said I don't have a problem with openly gay people being in the military either. What I do have a problem with is if people misbehave (as they tend to do) and gays who happen to be the targets break out that lovely "hate crime" garbage.

The military is full of patriots, that being said, a fair amount of those people are people with a new lease on life, many former scoundrels and aggressive sorts, and while discipline is taught it is not always kept, especially in the tough environments we place soldiers in. People tend to get aggravated in all sorts of ways, and while no assault or harassment is justified, equal treatment in the military must truly mean equal treatment, something if you know anything about the army, we have never been able to get a grip on.

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" should be scrapped.  The policy is a joke, and it's an easy out for anyone who doesn't want to deploy: They suddenly decide they are gay and need to tell their commanding officers.

My old roommate can't get married until 2012 because of this, and got engaged on New Year's.  I'd say it's a problem.

I could care less if a gay guys in the military.  If he/she can hit a target (preferrably an enemy one Tongue) I'd welcome them.  Just keep sex out of the barracks (that goes for straight military people just as much as gays).
