Question: Isn't this the type of ad one runs when one is feeling vulnerable?

Of course.

I thought Schulman was floundering in the polls though.

He's a powerful character.  As an amusing thought, when I first heard of his candidacy, I thought it'd be funny to elect a blind AND deaf representative.  The entire time in Congress he'd just be like "What?  Whaaat?  What's going on!"

Feeling vulnerable and being vulnerable are two different things, Lunar.  Some Congressmen are paranoid.  And its a good year for Republican congressmen to be paranoid.

I wouldn't be surprised if Shulman was behind by somewhere less than 10, however.

It's getting pretty dirty.

I don't know if there is enough time for this to backlash and create fundraising for Schulman though.  Maybe Kos will throw him an extra 200k, but it's getting late in the game for ad buys.  Only so much time left.

I hope this backlashes though.  Schulman seems like a genuine guy.

That's got to be one of the top 5 nastiest ads I've seen all cycle. It's up there with Kean's anti-Menendez "Sometimes you have to break the law" one last election.

Indeed. The only thing that could possibly justify this permeating negativity is that internal polling must be showing Republicans at all levels of government going down epically.

Indeed.

Is this the dirtiest of the campaign cycle?

Is McConnell's subtle race-baiting anti-Schumer one worse?  I don't think so.

I was expecting far worse from the commercial considering the comments here.

Considering how "relatively close" this race was in 2006 and considering how things are looking worse for Republicans in 2008, I'd expect this race to come in somewhere around Garrett +6–7 when all is said and done.

The strategy here is clearly to avoid being the next Jeb Bradley—Garrett doesn't want to lose to a nobody simply because he didn't define his opponent in a negative light.

If Garrett does lose this race, then Republicans will probably have lost at least 50 seats net.

What was wrong with that?  100% true

The worst ad of that cycle was the Sopranos spoof, while hilarious, it might have been the worst ad ever

You see, the anti-Menendez ad truthfully attacked a Democrat - so it was mean and nasty and bad and shouldn't have been aired.  Were it aimed at a Republican, most of those with red and green avatars would be calling it effective and the truth.

This ad isn't as mean and nasty and bad as advertised.  Candidates use negative advertising because it works.
