do you ever wonder what your life would be like had you never discovered the Atlas Forum?

I've been thinking about this the past few days a good deal.  I've spent an insane amount of time here since originally registering on 05/23/2003.  it basically eats up all of my free time.  while the other kids are out getting drunk and laid, I'm sitting here.  it reminds me of this scene from Good Will Hunting:

obviously I'm not trying to compare posting on the Atlas Forum with my wife dying of cancer, but the concept is sorta similar.  I do think I may well be much better off if I had never discovered this place.

despite that, I know I can't leave.  I'm hopelessly addicted.  so many people here are like people I have known for years now.  the forum plays a massive role in my life.  I am more addicted to this place than I ever was to nicotine.  and to think, some of the people here have the bug worse than I do...

thoughts?

I sometimes think about it, wouldn't have met a lot of cool people though I'd also have had a lot more time. Tongue

Though I also wouldn't have gotten a little sister. Sad

Yup.  When I go on vacation, and I'm gone for 4-5 days, I go into a withdrawl, almost.  It's weird.

true. but I have a real little sister. It's overrated. They don't even clean up after you.

I was a chronic lurker since the summer of 2004, then posted 100 times...went back into lurk mode. came out and started posting again. I know who everyone is and most likely I'm mostly unknown to everyone, now that's strange I think. I just need some kind of community, whether or not I'm lurking. Man, internet slang gets creepy (lurk lurk).

Probably could have cured cancer by now. Seriously, when I think about life before the internet, I just watched a lot more tv. Instead of the Atlas Forum, it was Saved by the Bell. I think that's an improvement.

I've lived without the forum before, haven't I? Smiley

But sure, now that I've established myself firmly, it would be weird.

This forum is an addiction for me. Smoking cigarettes would probably be healthier than posting on this site.

Eh... I'll probably take something of a break after the election. I'm spending way too much time posting here.

We certainly have an interesting cast of characters here though, don't we?

I love you guys... every last one of you (except Torie)....

*awkward silence*

Seriously, though.. I spend way too much time here... but there are worse things one could be doing.  I could be shoveling sh**t in a pig barn... that wouldn't be very fun, now would it?

I don't view it as any more of an addiction than anything else I like to do.

I do know I'd have probably an hours worth of additional time to fill each weekday when I already have extra time. I don't ever spend time here that I want to spend productively elsewhere; ie, I don't sit on the forum rather than partying, playing football, or anything. I just waste those excess hours on here. My life would be pretty different though. The Atlas taught me to type well and quickly and taught me the ability to form a logical argument. In that way the time I've spent here has kind of been like taking a class, albeit one that's consumed approximately 2 hours of every day for the past 50 months.

I left for several months several times in the past. I got over this place for the most part but then randomly decided to come back. It's hard to break away the more you return. Checking almost every single thing in most of the forum boards is definitely an addiction so to not check in here for a day or two is so stressful.

I'm trying to imagine what life would be like if I never came here in the first place; if I never stumbled across the forum side of this site. I have made quite a few friends here and have had a few interesting experiences with some of those people.

I think my life would actually be quite different if I'd never discovered this website. This is the only forum community where I've really felt like I belonged.

I'd be more of dick to my friends and just argue politics with them all the time. I'd probably get more school work done too if I didn't have this site to distract me or keep me up late at night. The strange thing is that I joined in 2004 and posted some before the 2004 election, then left for almost 4 years before last 2007. I don't know if I'll be around a lot after the election ends or not. I might to play the Atlasia game and discuss the 2012 Presidency and the Obama Administration.
