Ok, wth is with all the negativeness for Japan? Angry

Let's start with it being one of the most closed, patriarchical, expensive, and corporate societies on the planet.

...and continue with the overt racism, winner-takes-all attitude, and addiction to surreptitious violence.

I know and like many Japanese people, but the culture and nation as a whole are WAAAAAAYY overrated.

There's really only racism against black people.

Like this commerical for instance

That ad is anti-racist.

US - powerful, peaked after WW2, plateaued, now on its way down
Canada - 51st state
Mexico - US's mini factory after China
Cuba - US holds a vengeance that really screws them over Sad
Venezuela - Bad country, bad bad bad bad bad
Colombia - sorta good country that US's drug addiction screws over
Argentina - Coulda shoulda been great, bad economic policies
Brazil - an up and comer, need to address inequality
France - Cool, awful labor laws
Germany - Cool
Italy - sorta cool, really crappy institutions
Russia - scary, making a LOT of money off of oil.  Moscow is a booming city and no one knows it
South Africa - Meh, so 10 years ago
Zimbabwe - Mugabe is the worst of thugs
Israel - good intentions, stuck in a bad place, makes poor decisions perhaps due to the indivisibility of its goals.  Wants to be a Jewish, Democratic, Israeli state.  But it can only choose two.  It can be Jewish and Democratic but not occupy all of Israel, it can be Democratic and Israeli but include Arabs, or it can be Jewish and Israeli but not Democratic.
Iraq - worse off than it was during Saddam, how many people were killed by the war?  1 million?
Iran - Awful state, can't wait until students topple it
Afghanistan - Poor guys.  Become a giant opium farm.
Pakistan - Declining and becoming more radical.  Watch out India!
India - Rising
China - New world hegemon in 30 years, will become more Democratic
Japan - reached its potential in the 80's, still baddass and awkward socially
Australia - highest per capita Olympic medals?

They don't take to kindly to Korean or Chinese either...or at least that's what I hear.  I've never been.  They seem to like us giant crackers though.

US -- I live here... I don't feel entitled to an opinion.
Canada -- Like the US but cooler (pun intended)
Mexico -- Meh, I don't like their accent, but I like their music.  Their food is alright.
Cuba -- Seems like an extension of Florida, except communist.  Meh.
Venezuela -- I think Chavez is underrated, but I can't think of any cultural achievements.
Colombia -- Gabriel García Márquez... but the country is screwed by the drug war
Argentina -- I love the concept of the country, and its music.  And Borges.  Too much meat though.
Brazil -- Like Argentina but happier, and therefore less interesting.  Also, white trousers.
France -- Good music and good food, and awesome selection of art and history.  Somewhat sh**tty government policy.
Germany -- A less flavorful European country, but still cute and has lots of history.
Italy -- The whole country is too bel canto for my taste.
Russia -- Ah, my native land.  I love the culture, music, literature, everything.  But the government sucks.  We may be doomed to that -- our mindset produces a society of depressed drunks.
South Africa -- meh?  I don't know much about it.
Zimbabwe -- I feel immensely sorry for its people...
Israel -- Shouldn't have happened in the first place, but now that it exists... meh?
Iraq -- The cradle of civilization -- for what it's worth.  Not much there now, but it's hard to blame them for it.
Iran -- Interesting, but a sh**tty government.
Afghanistan -- The crossroads of Eurasia.  Interesting because of the mix of cultures.  Somewhat stifled by Islam and very unlucky.
Pakistan -- Ugh.  Overcrowded hot hellhole.
India -- Also an overcrowded hot hellhole, but with interesting culture and good food.
China -- There's some brotherly understanding here -- the mindset is like the Russian one, but less fatalistic, more conformist and success-driven.  This produces an even sh**ttier society, one less likely to generate amazing cultural achievements.
Japan -- The culture is massively interesting, but it's a product of incredibly repressed and depressed minds.  Good food.
Australia -- It has cool animals, but other than that it's just a bigger version of Texas.  Meh.

US - negative (I would have a better opinion if they stayed home)
Canada - positive (A better version of the US and I have relatives there)
Mexico - neutral (There are good and bad parts)
Cuba - positive
Venezuela - positive
Colombia - negative
Argentina - positive
Brazil - negative
France - negative (Probably the most consistent anti-Bulgarian major power)
Germany - negative (Unlike most of the previous posters, I've actually lived there)
Italy - positive (But not their football team. Or the politics.)
Russia - positive (A very interesting country, with great people. And the most consistent pro-Bulgarian of the major powers)
South Africa - positive (They may not be ideal, but they are moving in the right direction)
Zimbabwe - negative
Israel - negative (See the note on the US)
Iraq - negative
Iran - neutral
Afghanistan - negative
Pakistan - negative
India - negative
China - positive
Japan -
Australia - negative

Russia-negative.  They seem to enjoy being under the thumb of powerful leaders.
Considering that almost every time the country wasn't ruled by strong rulers was  a spectacular disaster, this opinion is not surprising.

Which is why people emigrate from Kazakhstan to Russia.

Australia - highest per capita Olympic medals?

Second, after the Bahamas. Damn you, the Bahamas!

Might be different for 2008 though.

I remember when Bangladesh beat Australia. And when Bangladesh beat India (I was in Bangladesh for that one). In fact, I literally remember every time Bangladesh has ever won.

On second thought, I should exclude Pakistan. Islamabad is the root of all evil.
