I feel awful.

I just walked upstairs and it was dark...and I stepped on one of two baby kittens that we were going to give away Monday. I quickly turned on the light and one of the kittens was hissing, the other was gurgling...and I saw blood. I quickly woke up my father and the one kitten was dead.

So now I'm the guy who killed a baby kitten.

Kittens die all the time.  Letting your cats have them in the first place was a much bigger mistake.

Wow, that sucks. I can't count the number of times I've stepped on one of my mother's cats. Fortunately, they're adults, so they just hiss & run off without any serious injury.

Damn, I'm sorry Mike. That has got to feel terrible. I know it was just an accident, but it still sucks. Take care.

Don't beat yourself up.

It's the type of mistake everyone makes in our lifetime.

Most people's mistakes are 99.9999999% worse though.  This is tragic, but you can learn from it and be more careful when baby animals around.  A real mistake is not talking to your best  friend enough before he commits suicide or something like that, this is pretty minor-league (although I'm sure it feels bad).

Not a big deal, it's a minor thing.

When you're running for office in the future, your opponent will probably run a commercial about how you kill kittens.

I wouldn't call this a "minor thing" at all.

It's an accident. It was dark and the two kittens were playing at the base of the stairs and I accidently stepped on one. I feel terrible...but everyone has acknowledged it was an accident.

Nobody's going to believe you, baby killer. Accident my ass. I suppose there should be a new inquiry into the circumstances of Floyd's death as well. [/bad taste jokes]

Meanwhile, I saved a mouse's life yesterday. Couldn't get out of a public garbage can on its own, and was mighty panicky. Bit me to express its thanks, too.

LOL

And please recall that this comes about a week after the untimely passing of Theo the Catfish.

Naso, we're on to you.

You think it's a big thing?

What does that make the rest of the mistakes we make, which result from poor decisions and have actual consequences?  Astronomical?

Will we just refer to every mistake we make as "big" and "astronomical" from here on out?

Well, this is up there with the time that when my then wife was going to have us give away Nibbler and Nibbler snuck into the dishwasher and died before a weasel lady was going to take him away from us because the apartments started cracking down on pets.
