Lean McCain, which is troubling news for the Arizona Senator.  If he struggles to win North Dakota and Montana, he's in deep trouble all over the country, and thats not even taking into account his trouble in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Georgia to some extent.

The polls indicate either lean McCain or toss-up (I forget and am not going to look up which it is). The weight of history says solid McCain. Obama is organized here. The national trends look quite bad for McCain and worse in the northern Plains. Hence, lean McCain.

Lean McCain more out of uncertainty than anything.  My guess is that it will be close, but Obama's ceiling is probably ~49%.

The state has the highest proportion of young voters (like 25% or something).. mostly due to high youth voter turnout... and they favor Obama.  It also has one of the highest elderly proportions as well, though... but North Dakota could be a place where there is a significant swing towards Obama among the elderly.

If Obama wins North Dakota, it will be a huge symbolic win for the Democrats... and it would clearly give Obama a mandate.
