Yes. Seems like they all follow the same format, just mix and match the following words:

People's
Liberation
Revolutionary
National
Popular
Democratic
Front/Army/Union
name of your country/ethnic group

and boom, there's your new rebel group name.

Rebels just aren't as creative as they used to be.

Watch Monty Python and the Life of Brian, if you haven't already.

Epic win, but Holy Grail was better.

How dare you insult the People's Democratic Liberation Revolutionary National Front!

Props to the LTTE for using a word from outside of the formula, though. Especially Tigers. No one expects tigers.

Take a look at WW2 resistance groups, if you want more original names.

FX:
in Denmark: Holger Danske ( litt. Holger (name) the Dane - named after a mythical Danish hero)
Borgelige Partisaner ( bourgeoisie partisans - pretty funny since they where communists)

In France: The Maquis (basically scrublands)

In Norway: Milorg (short for militær organisasjon; Military Organisation)

Just to name a few.

Or what about the Hutu organisation behind the 1994 Rwandan genocide, called Interahamwe, mening something like "those who stand together" or Umkhonto We Sizwe (Spear of the Nation) in South Africa.

Oh yes. I was reminded of that when reading up on the conflict between the Eritrean Liberation Front and the Eritrean People's Liberation Front. While at the same time the Ethiopian military regime was fighting the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front.

Good for them. If I had to start a rebel group, I would call it the Armed Harpooneers of the New Order of Living Dangerously (AHNOLD). Tongue

Just yesterday I was thinking about that "bite in the night" scene from The Meaning of Life.
