I really liked McCain in 2000, I lost a lot of respect for him as a politician when he attached himself to Bush and his agenda.
I feel quite sorry for him, he was lumped with a horrible year for Republicans. I don't think McCain cares about social policy, I personally think he's a pragmatic old-school libertarian western Republican. However, he had a chance to really set himself aside, but by picking Palin he lowered himself to nothing more than the typcial Republican - appealing to the lowest common-denomenator by campaigning to voters who exist on ignorance, bigotry and fear.
Overall - negative.
