it can be difficult to reconcile stories such as these with the presence of a benevolent God.

assuming there is such a God, as I do....and that there is a heaven....what's the problem?

RIP. It's heartbreaking that she won't get to see the boy she raised into such an impressive man win the presidency tomorrow.

I went to the funeral today of a truly great lady, who had 5 children and worked her way up from going to a basically segregated school, to be a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Her numerous children, grand children, and great grand children were there.  I read Psalm 91 because she requested that I read it, when she preplanned her funeral.

While Mrs. Dunham had accomplishments, lets not get carried away.

I didn't realize her name was Dunham...but, they already buried her?  I thought she just died today?!

This really makes me sad. How disappointing for Barack; I hope he can still make it through these next days with spirit and hope. I really hope he is okay.

RIP Ms. Dunham

Too bad for Obama and his family.  Thankfully the media hasn't exploited this with all out TV coverage (Not sarcasm).

Thanks. I find that kind of disturbing, not that it has anything to do with Obama himself. If true, hopefully they at least eat the bull...

of course they're going to eat it, why do you think they're killing it?

A sacrifice implies they are going to kill the bull to sate the fury of some pagan deity.  On the other hand, if they are going to kill the fatted calf in celebration of something that makes them happy, that's an entirely different kettle of fish.  Or jerky.

what's to say she went to Heaven?  Heaven seems to be quite an exclusive place, from the NT.

The timing makes this one of the sadder political stories in history (given her status as Obama's emotionally closest relative).

On the other hand, she's had a good long life.  I've already lost one grandmother and I doubt the other one will last 25 years until I'm 46.  I hope that doesn't seem callous, but I'm glad that she already beat the odds to see her grandson get as far as he did.

She wasn't the sole person to raise him, though perhaps the sole surviving person.

This made me smile.  She got to vote for Barack (or against him).

Ms. Dunham’s absentee mail ballot was received and reviewed under the Hawaii standards for processing absentee mail ballots… She was alive at that time. Her ballot will be opened tomorrow, and it will be counted in the same way that all absentee voters would be treated under our law.

I am not aware of Muslims offerring animal sacrifices for religious purposes

My condolences, she seemed like a wonderful grandmother.  Too bad her creep grandson disrespected her by telling the world she was a racist.

If she was happy and not in pain, then that's really great. What a way to go...surrounded by love, in old age, and with knowledge that the future of your family is glorious.

RIP.

I must admit I was saddened by the news of Madelyn Dunham's death this morning when I found out the news. In many aspects, Obama's relationship with his Grandmother reminding me a lot of my own relationship with my Gran, probably one of the reasons why I was so saddened.
